Does brake service have to be done at BMW?
So I've checked around and most everyone says you can service a leased car anywhere. It doesn't have to be done at BMW. I'm talking about wear and tear items which isn't covered under the lease contract.
Just want to confirm that's true. I don't even wanna know what the dealer will charge for the service, so to avoid that I want to go straight to an outside shop. Right? |

Assuming you are in the US.
"Regardless of what your dealer tells you, you have the right to repair your car anywhere The Motor Vehicle Owners' Right to Repair Act, sometimes also referred to as Right to Repair, is a name for several related proposed bills in the United States Congress and several state legislatures which would require automobile manufacturers to provide the same information to independent repair shops as they do for dealer shops. This means a few items in your favor: • All auto manufacturers diagnostic codes and repair data is uniform and available to independent repair shops. • You are not limited to fixing your car at the dealership. • Paying high dealer repair costs is not the only option, you can have your car fixed at any other independent repair facility that offer much more reasonable prices. • It is against the law for the dealership to tell you that your warranty will be voided by getting your repairs done elsewhere, so long as you have receipts to prove proper factory maintenance has been performed. |

Nice!
Just found a place. For my 330i, he quoted front brakes and discs, out the door is $887. Good? Bad? Obviously I'll keep checking but this was the first place I checked. And he's using OE parts. |

OEM pads and rotors cost $437 from ECS. It takes < 1 hr per wheel to replace the pads and rotor. You are being charged $450 labor for 1.5 hours of work.
As for leased vehicles, you realize they won't even know or care that the brakes were replaced? As long as they aren't worn out when you return it, it doesn't matter. |
