I guess no one really knows, but it looks like they are reserving chip supplies for higher spec'd, and therefore higher margin cars. So hopefully you'll be OK.

That doesn’t look too bad then at the moment for my UK order. I have tech pack but not tech pack plus (not bothered about driver assistance). Lack of HK would be a deal breaker though.

Bit of a mess this. I was about to order but dropped out at the lumbar support deletion. I didn't want 99.5% of a premium car. I'll have to soldier on with the current car for a while yet.

It's going to be a minefield for second hand buyers in the future to know what gadgets are missing without checking the VIN.

Exactly the same for me! Tech pack minus the plus! Do not want DAP! Also HK….can take it or leave it really, could probably count on both hands how often the HK was on in my previous 440i in almost three and a half years!

Don't worry too much about the HK audio, its absolutely pants.

There are a number of ways to obtain updates dependant upon where you are worldwide. In the States you can obtain a fuller service. For me, I just go on to BMW Live chat via the configurator and give my order number to the genius advisor.

See if this works and then at least you've got the list and can ask your dealer for an update!

My dealer gives me the four digit codes rather than the three digit ones but I'm assuming both versions are valid?

The chip shortage is impacting a lot of manufacturing...like appliances.
Ordered a refrigerator in October, kept getting push backed delays. Finally arrived end of March. Not having a full sized refrigerator during a pandemic was interesting. Thankfully I used my neices dorm room model, since she couldn't be in her dorm due to the pandemic.

The HiFi system is not THAT bad. I wouldn't let not having the HK system stop me from buying, arguably, the best auto in its class. But that's just me... and I didn't order the HK.
As far as the seat adjustments, in every car I have ever owned, I set that once to memory and never change it. Of course, I ordered mine and it arrived exactly as I configured it. So easy for me to say...

The thing is that when you order a car from the factory to your spec,
it puts a smile on the buyer’s face.
It should be a great experience.
This chip problem knocks the smile off his/hers face.
It leaves a sour taste in your mouth.
You are not getting the car you want and that could leave a negative
attitude towards an expensive purchase.

So if I understand correctly, you cannot add the optional lumbar support to a g20 moving forwards, yes?

That's the thing. While we all understand these option deletions aren't 100% auto or electronic mfgs fault, I was also questioning why the factory won't ship with passenger side internal seat bladders. And when those chips are available again, to have dealers retrofit and activate the lumbar and bolster adjustments. The short answer is either they won't or can't.

And I totally agree with Isow's take on this whole experience. Definitely deflated(pun intended) my enthusiasm and excitement levels on my factory order on an M440i Cabriolet. Cancelled and ended up with a stock unit that the dealer happened to have. A 2nd choice nonetheless as its a coupe and not of the colour combo we ordered for on the Cabriolet. However, its complete with all the options I've wanted and been we've super happy so far with the performance and almost flawless techs with the coupe.

So...I had another chat with the dealer today.

Initially my g21 was meant to be delivered at the end of May...now it has been pushed to the end of June.

The dealer informed me that BMW would cover the cost to extend my current lease into July...

Getting a bit fed up with all of this now....I ordered the car on the 5th of Feb.

How strange - I ordered on exactly the same day as you but had the chat today to arrange delivery on 25th May.

Wow! My ex Cabriolet order was also placed on the same day as you guys. last I heard before I changed my mind in late April was that production for my unit had been pushed back to Week18. Which is about now. Considering shipping from Germany to the east coast of Canada, then by train across the continent to the westcoast, dealer may not see this Cabriolet until Jul or early Aug.
