Around 4000 new BMWs damaged in hailstorm in Munich on June 10th
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com Your car is most likely damaged in a major hailstorm that hit Munich area on Monday, June 10th 2019. Official reports say around 4000 BMWs that were waiting for delivery are damaged! According to the info I currently have, my car was on that parking lot. One of the areas with the worst damage is where BMW Garching facility is located. This is where most of the vehicles were waiting for transport. At this moment my local dealer does not have any official info from BMW HQ. We only know that it's stuck in pre-transport phase since last monday, June 10th. I was scheduled for delivery by the end of last week(by June 15th). Now I'm just bummed out because I don't know anything. I don't know if my car is severly damaged. I don't know if it's going to be repaired or replaced with a new one. And I don't know when will it be delivered. These damages could be serious because all reports state that hail was even bigger then a size of a Baseball!!! Officials state that huge damages are recorded on vehicles, houses and infrastructure. Insurance companies initially estimated this to 30 million €, but eventually updated the estimate to 45 million. There are several owners on german forums that were unlucky as I was. Some cars had smaller damage and those will be repaired with an estimated repair wait period of 6 weeks minimum. One german owner reported his G20 320i was totalled, and he's gonna get a new one. I was already afraid that this happened. My car is also on it’s way for delivery around mid of June. So it wouldn’t surprise me that my car is also impacted/damaged. So far no update from the dealer.

My dealer checked the status on several occasions since then, and there were no updates. It's still waiting in Munich together with 8 other cars that should have been delivered to my dealer last week. It's pretty obvious that these cars were damaged. The only question is how severely. |

Yikes! My condolences to anyone who’s BMW is affected by this situation. I’m sure BMW will make it right, though I know the extra waiting time and stress will not be pleasant.

So far, we know that some cars had minor damage in terms of smaller number of dents on the roof and hood, while others suffered severe denting and flooding due to broken windshields and rear glass. Former will be repaired. Latter will be written-of and replaced by newly built cars. Insurance companies also have a big influence on the assesment process. Newly built cars will be prioritized to hit the production line as soon as possible. Estimates are this will take another 3-6 weeks. Legally, in EU a new car can be repaired before delivery if the repairs are minor, and perforned by authorized personell with factory parts in a way that the end result does not differ from unrepaired new vehichle. Buyer has no right to refuse delivery of such a car. Buyer can refuse to accept the car only if repairs can be detected and they affect the performance, functionality or aesthetics of the car in any way that differentiates it from a "new" car. Has anyone else had their car after leaving the factory on or around the 3rd June? My dealer has gone "dark", after telling me I'd have it 3rd week in June 😩

I've just heard from the dealer that my car is in at Park Lane in London and being delivered to me on the 4th July. Not quite sure why it takes almost 2 weeks to get from there to between Edinburgh and Glasgow but hey!
I quizzed him about the hail stone incident and he seemed to be completely oblivious?? Hope it hasn't been damaged and the dealer is repairing it! That would take the shine right off my delivery. Burnsy |

Of course, if the repair is to an extent that it might cause troubles down the road, that opens BMW up to lawsuits so those are likely handled differently. |
