OTS Vs custom dyno tune?
What’s the difference for a 2020 m340ix:
OTS Mission engine/trans tune Vs Ecutek tuned on dyno by Botti + XHP trans tune I am looking for a safe, reliable daily. The car already has AA catted Downpipe and I will only run 93 octane pump gas. It seems the Ecutek + XHP is probably better and maybe better tuned for my specific car, but it may be overkill and gonna run about $2500+ and it’s not like I’ve got new turbo and intercooler or e50 in play… Mission sounds good but worried about bricking my car on the install and also I’d need to log runs and that sounds like a pita. That to say for daily driver, set and forget it setup, which is better and why? |

If you think doing logs is a pita, just stay with an OTS and don't do a custom tune. If you are ONLY going to use 93, stay on an OTS map. Custom tunes are way faster than OTS because it's tuned to your engine specifically as well as elevation/DA. I have ecutek and a custom tune by racebox with XHP. I can put 2 car lengths on OTS m340i's from a roll.

Yes, more timing and boost. I also have a custom launch control and custom traction map for launching on the street. As well as boost by gear. I have a RWD m340i and I can do 0-60 in 3.3 seconds on Michelin PS4s tires. This is where custom tuning comes into play. But this was doable through a lot of trial and error with the tuner. So I went through few revisions before it was really dialed in.

Wow, that's impressive!! Do I understand correctly that you have no hardware upgrades? Downpipe? Turbo? Also, what fuel or you using? Thanks................... Frank |

Catless downpipe, and e50 tune via ecutek + XHP stage 3. That's all. Everything else is stock and car is full weight.

If you want a safe and reliable daily, get the bm3 off-the-shelf maps. These are the most proven daily maps in the world.
If you want more power without risking reliability or putting too much pressure on the engine, get Jordan B58 OTS+ maps; no datalog is needed. Customer mapping, like the ones you mentioned, might provide more power, but now that you are using the car to its limit, you should also consider that the chances of a problem are higher than the more conservative maps.

Custom tune you’re considering is indeed a very good option but based on what you’ve shared is important to you and what you plan on running, all indicators point towards mission. As an existing mission customer here are some things that come to mind
M-Link – mission can provide your needed at home bench unlock, tuning platform, trans tune and flash itself all written by mission. This gives you a single point of contact for all four aspects of your tuning experience and us based customer support (unlock, flashing platform, engine and trans flash itself). Combine that with the fact that you’ll get one of the highest power outputs OTS tunes on the market that at the same time gives you a built-in transmission tune and something that is super safe, reliable, and very oem like. It’s a very compelling offer. Made better by the fact that if you do ever want a custom tune they can do that in house for you. But they do take a very set it and forget it approach so if you want to be actively involved with making your own tweaks to your engine and transmission they are not a good fit. Oh and buddy that I turned onto mission just got a “bundle” price because they bought unlock and flash might want to contact them about that in that I don’t think its mentioned on their website. Not sure if that's ongoing or a promo etc.. |
