Service interval for 2020 M340i

Hi all,

I've been doing research just to verify what all the proper service intervals the M340i will require in order to keep it running for the longest time.

Here is what I have:

Engine Oil - 5k miles or 6 months
Transmission Fluid - 60k miles or 6 years
Coolant - 50k miles or 5 years
Brake Fluid - 3 to 5 years
Differential + Transfer case - 30k miles (Do I need this?)
Power Steering - 50k to 70k miles
Spark Plugs - 120k miles or 10 years
Inspect it regularly

Please let me know if there is anything I should change?

Thank you for your time and help!

Theres nothing wrong with 5k oil changes, but I've switched to 10k (VAG spec but I've had no issues )

Definitely don't think you need the power steering as its electric

I'm pretty sure the change interval for our transmissions is 60K (60-80) miles. I'm not there yet but thats when I would do the diffs and transfer case

120K miles on a spark plug seems excessive to me. I normally change those at 50-60k miles or if I find something cool I want to try lol, not a difficult swap

BMW is recommending 10k for oil changes, so that works for me!

Spark plugs every 120k miles on a direct injection car? No way! I am at 40k miles and they are basically toast already. I'd say 40-50k miles on a stock car, 25k on a tuned car.
I am not a fan of 10k mile oil changes. I personally stick with 5k. The rest seems pretty on point other than power steering fluid, we have electric steering so no power steering fluid to change.

I've had a couple different SA's at BMW say the transmission fluid is lifetime, which I find hard to believe. Anyone heard this before?

I change my oil every 5k. I also run 0w30. ZF recommends changing the fluid every 50k. BMW recommends rear diff changes at 60k. And brake fluid is every two years. Coolant im presuming is covered under condition based service but personally i would change both low and high pressure systems before 100k. No power steering service as we have EPS. As for spark plugs, since this is a direct injection engine, id clean the valves, intake, etc. as well. On a stock engine id do that at 80k or so miles. I see someone on here said 40k and i say why not honestly.

Agree with Jester above. Brake fluid every two years. I also plan to do the diff at 60K as well as the plugs (but I'll pull them at 30K to inspect).

My first oil change will be at 5K then once a year or 10K.

For oil, I'd say it depends. On how you drive your car.

I do every 3,500. And have sent my oil out to Blackstone at 10k mile intervals.

How much is Blackstone charging nowadays to inspect oil?

Do note that this has to do with Euro/EPA targets. Oil changes count towards some kind of emission/waste thing, so raising the interval helps BMW with these goals. Can't go wrong with 5k synth changes especially on a turbo car. Also bear in mind that oil additives break down from time alone, so time alone does matter too.

Doesn't the timing chain need to be replaced on these?

No need to change brake fluid unless you do repetitive hard braking. It’s not like engine oil where it gets dirty, it’s a matter of whether it has absorbed water or not as it is hygroscopic. Look at the label of any brake fluid and it will list dry boiling point (temperature). As it absorbs moisture over time the boiling point lowers, leading to squishy brake feel. This is why many people never bother changing it at all.

Brake fluid MAX 2 years, no more.
Spark plugs closer to 30k miles not 120. I did mine at 30k miles, mainly because I was going a colder plug and they were already pretty worn. I'd say 50k miles would max it out.

Diff and trans - rear diff definitely every 30k miles (assuming you have a M340i which has an LSD), front diff and transfer case at least every 50k miles.

Coolant every 50k miles - excessive. 100k miles probably be more than fine.
