Screen mirroring on iDrive7

Hi all,
Wondering if there are any how-to guides on how to get my iPhone to mirror the screen on my 2020 M340i. I’ve followed all the official guides but no luck. The car doesn’t appear as an option when I try to mirror. Phone connects with CarPlay and WiFi for all other functions.
Really appreciate any input.

Don’t believe you can mirror with Apple products.

That's correct. The screen mirroring protocol being used is Miracast, which is not available on iOS devices.

I cant even get my apple car play working lol. Does yours only work from the center USB-C? Cause nothing happens when I plug it in to the USB-A by the cup holders. Sorry to go off topic lol

I believe that Apple car play is wireless only. You select it when you pair your Apple phone with iDrive.

I didn't opt for the wireless charging option so I'm not sure if I have the wireless CarPlay. My dealer says I do have it though so not sure

Two separate systems, you need to enable CarPlay within idrive settings. Also enable the use of WiFi and Bluetooth in your phone connection to the car

Furthermore, if you're still trying to get CarPlay working, don't plug your phone in to either of those ports. It can cause unexpected connection behavior. I actually run a charging cable around the back of the center console to one of the two USB-C ports for the back seat passengers. These are power-only ports so it won't confuse the head unit into thinking you are trying to do anything other than CarPlay.

Mirror and Carplay

Hi everyone and thanks for all your replies.
In terms of Apple CarPlay the car doesn’t need to have the wireless charger option to work. I have found a lot of bugs with Apple CarPlay and the only thing that works is turning your Wi-Fi on your phone off and then back on again to connect an CarPlay. For some reason it seems that it needs both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections to work. In terms of the screen mirroring do you think there are any plans to include iOS support to the future?

Correct, Apple designed wireless CarPlay to require both WiFi and BT.

Have seen no mention or speculation of iOS screen mirroring in the future.

Hi there, I have a m340i touring and iPhone. How do I play videos on my idrive? Is it possible?

If I switched to an android device could I then mirror the phone and pay videos through that?

Thanks!
Josh

You can do it on an android device. Some pictures from when I have tried it.
