Depends a lot on what type of driving you do. If you are predominantly day time or night city driving there is probably little benefit other than the obvious aesthetic improvement over the standard LED lights (different day time design).
If like me you drive a lot at night, in the countryside and on motorways then yes, there is a significant improvement. Having said that I have driven a G20 with standard adaptive LED lights and these are still great. In the UK the laser lights are part of the 'visibility pack' which only includes the laser lights at £1500, so not a cheap option. |

In addition I'm not sure if LL is neutered for Canada as it is in US markets. Might be worth checking, if it influences your decision there - would be things like max beam distance/illumination.

I had them in my last car, and also on our X7, they're really great and shine far. My G22 does not have them and to be honest, I don't miss them even on my dark country roads. If I was ordering, I'd probably throw them on though just because that's what I do

I actually miss gesture controls from Exec pkg more. I didn't realize how much I used them.

I have the laser lights here in Canada and they are really not worth it. BMW doesn't activate the anti-dazzle (selectively lowers the high beam in spots) feature for Canada/USA so you cannot leave it in the high-beam mode 100% of the time like in Europe. With the auto-high beam (high beam is fully on or fully off) function, I noticed the car going to full beam maybe once in a two hour highway drive and that too for 2 seconds before it switches back to low beam due to oncoming traffic. The low-beam uses standard LED lights. Also, unlike Europe, BMW has also disabled small blue LED strip on the corner of the laser lights.
I considered getting the anti-dazzle feature programmed (costs $50-100) but with frequent BMW software updates, I'd have to get it reprogrammed after each update so not worth the hassle for me. |

I got Lasers for the DRL's and it is worth it for me.
Anti-dazzle function is coded back on, and I love it, you can clearly see what headlights are doing, while blue High-beam light in the dash is on, all the time.. Now...the Laser light itself ...never clearly noticed it coming on in almost a year of ownership, but having said that these are the best lights I ever experienced, huge improvement over F30 adaptive LED's I had before. |

I've never found myself wanting for the standard LED lights that come on the 3-series. They are way brighter than any other headlights I've ever had.

I opted for the laser lights solely for the different daytime running lights. They're more fuller and round, as compared to the standard LED ones where it's kinda like a elongated "U". The whole adaptive high beam thing is neutered here in the states to really say I got them cause of the functionality of the lights.

Laser only come on above 37mph AND under certain ambient lighting conditions. Meaning if you live in the city or urban areas, LED high beams are primarily used and you're upgrading for looks.
In rural areas or areas with less ambient lighting - low to no street lights, long stretches of dark roads, highways - LED high beams will be augmented with Laser light at highway speeds.

I'd say Laser Light is primarily a design feature. It is a good feature but as a high beam light, I personally used it around 3 times in 10000 km.

I would assume that replacing a laser headlight assembly could also be extremely expensive. I have them on my M340i because the car was specially optioned from factory.

dreamisle & myM340 ,
There's a thread on the DIY & Coding sub-forum you may want to check out: Anti-dazzle coding on Laser? https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1610992 Hope that helps!

I have them on my 320d (G20) and found that they're more sensitive than the Adaptive LED, useful if you live in a region where some parts aren't lit well. The standard Adaptive LEDs are a safe choice if it's not entirely a big deal to you

Had my 330e for about a month, not done much night driving to see the difference, but they do look good!

Non-Laser lights on G20 are worse than what an economy compact car such as Mazda3 has (mainly high-beam on straight line); getting out of the Mazda3 and jumping in the G20 with adaptive-LEDs, it was the first thing I've noticed during the night drive.
To validate my assumptions, I took a look at IIHS measurements which also confirmed what I was seeing. I would have probably added laser lights knowing this in advance. From left to right, measurements: Laser, Adaptive LED, non-Adaptive LED, Mazda3's LED. Last edited by iulianm; 05-22-2021 at 10:24 AM.. |
