software update not installing
Hi, i downloaded the 07/2022 update about 3 weeks ago. I am unable to install it. The car states that preparation is complete and I will be notified when the update is ready for install. Normally I’m able to install immediately after update. Any suggestions?

How did you go about your download? Sounds like it hasn't fully downloaded the updates?
I upgraded mine successfully last week.
Also have my My BMW Settings page in the attached image if it helps. You should also be able to go into iDrive, vehicle settings, Apps I think (I'd have to double check the exact path next time I'm in my car, but I think you'll find it in the apps sections) and re-trigger the check for updates in case it didn't finish your download properly. Anyway hope this helps. |

I downloaded through the my Bmw app, then transferred to the car. The app says transfer completed to install in the car. The car shows the transfer has completed too, that it will notify me when ready to install. Stop waiting, and no way to force start the install. Will send through the screen shot later. I have done at least three upgrades previously without issues.

This is usually, if not always, caused by a low battery. There are numerous threads concerning it. Mine was like that for a couple of months and then I got a message that the Remote Update was not possible on my vehicle and to take it to a Service Center. About month later I drove it for five days in a row (usually only use is it a day or two a week) and got the prompt to install the update.
Either drive it around some more or hook up a battery charger/maintainer (which of course has its own problems ).

Interesting. I disabled date in the car. Then reactivated it. The software update status changed to “remote update not possible”. The mybmw app changed status to “software is current”. Hopefully I will be able to download again and update successfully this time

I went on a short drive. That promoted the car to check for updates. Was able to download again on the phone app. Currently transferring the download. Just need to go on a longer drive to complete the transfer. Fingers crossed this time

I remember seeing "preparation in the background while driving", so it looks like transfer from phone to car can't be done while car is stationary and charging with battery charger.
If the transfer is complete but the car battery is low, I think the ECU will not start the installation even with 5-10A charger connected, maybe u will need 25A and up. |

Went on a long 3 hour drive, completed the transfer, returned home, parked car. Same result. Will try again later but my hopes are not high. I have previously updated my car without issues. Only difference this time is that I did not renew my connected drive subscription.

Took the car out a couple more times. Stopped, parked, engine off, checked. No result. This really sucks. Remote software upgrade is active on the vehicle. It is not linked to the connected drive services which I did not renew. Is there a connection somehow? Bmw are shoddy at soft water, so cannot rule it out

Strange suggestion based on something I saw once.
If you’re using wireless CarPlay, try disconnecting or deleting the CarPlay profile. Go through the regular wifi and Bluetooth setups. If you need to use CarPlay, try a physical cable. I notice significant delays in iMessage and other data across my devices when wireless CarPlay is in use. I had an app once that refused to connect to the internet. The short version was, the paired use of Bluetooth and wifi to support wireless CarPlay was hogging the bandwidth. I almost think you’re hitting low spots of data, saturation, or interference causing these issues. |

Advice for issues with wireless upgrades and features
FYI - I haven’t had a remote software update on my 2023 330e yet so far (mine was released from VPC mid to late October 2022), but I’ve since disabled wireless CarPlay as a precaution. It also seemed to cause overheating on wireless charging on trips of more than ~25-35 minutes using wireless charging and wireless CarPlay.
Also note: I am running the latest 7.22 update you’ve referenced. There’s a slight discrepancy there. Last edited by DrivenByE; 12-17-2022 at 06:03 AM.. Reason: Typo correction from autocorrect r |

I haven’t read all the thread so apologies if resolved….
Don’t be fooled……the battery can be less than healthy even when driven every day. I had this on my 330i, only picked up the battery wasn’t 100% when the stop/start stopped kicking in and the comfort access became erratic - no warning messages whatsoever. Your dealer can assess the health of the battery from your key fob on a desktop basis. My battery was replaced under warranty. I’ll have a small wager that if you put the battery on a conditioner for 24 hours the software will install. |

I had 2 software updates so far with bluetooth + wifi. The first time was a pain to setup the wifi. In the 2nd time, my phone got a notification from the car requesting a temporary wifi connection, so I clicked on that and the download(from phone to car) started right away. |
