ConnectedDrive reporting all mods (logs) to BMW and voids warranty
Hey,
i have recently contacted my friendly dealer and they said that new connecteddrive reports all logs made by mods etc to the BMW. Also my friend got his warranty rejected due to small mod (stage 1). I'm afraid, because i'm going to have m340i and i really wanted to do stage 1 (460hp). Any experiences with that issue? And now you cant even disable it in 100% |

I don't believe that's true (about ConnectedDrive).
Either way, I'm scared to do a tune on this car.

Doesn't connected drive report this to BMW anyways and still void warranty even if you remove it before service? This is my first BMW and I am not sure how tight they are

Guys, way too generic in this post. For something like this, it would be nice to quote a credible source as to what info is being tracked, to whom, and how? Is this from a tech in the know or a spitballing SA? Is it flash counts stored in the car (aka VW) or active real time diagnostics being relayed? If we're talking about cars in the US, you can't just say that the warranty is voided as a blanket statement. Having a tune wouldn't void the warranty for a window switch or door latch that stopped working. Blown turbo? Now you may be on your own for that one.

Some of you guys are so gullible; BMW can't even get the Remote Software Update to function properly you really think they can or will have the ability to track your mods?
No, they don't send tuning manipulation data to HQ, the only data that is transferred is when the CBS indicates service is due, it notifies the dealer you chose in your Connectdrive profile, so they can call you and schedule an appointment. It's a convenient feature not an electronic snitch.. If they have a large drivetrain warranty claim, they will interrogate the ECU and look for shadow faults recorded within the EEPROM database, indicating tampering to the original software. They not going to waste resources and bandwidth on an issue that affect a small fraction of their consumers. |

Flash tunes always void warranty, get a JB+ or JB4 if you want to make some decent power in a stealthier format.
