992.2 carrera T

Didn't see a thread for this. What are everyone's thoughts on the new 992.2 carrera T?

I'm very intrigued by it. It's 6MT, lightweight, has PASM and RWS as standard. I've also heard (haven't personally verified) that a simple tune will get you in the 500+ hp territory which is a ton of power for a car that weighs 3,300 lbs.

I priced one out to $165k optioned exactly how I'd want it... which is steep but may be the price to pay to get into a brand new 6MT 911 without hitting the GT cars. Of course the argument will always be there about simply buying a used older model with a manual trans.

I'm not in the market yet... still want to continue enjoying my G80 for several more years... but I can't help but think ahead and the T sounded like a great option. I tracked a 992.1 T last month and it felt good (was pdk though).

Nice car, legendary brand. In a couple of years a ZR1 might be a $165K. And a 992 T might be $185K.

From what I understand it'll be the easiest payment you'll ever make.

Also, a very different model but a friend of mine bought a 2013 911 with 90k miles off one of his co-workers. They just wanted to dump it before it got expensive to maintain. He claims he offered him 30k cash and they jumped on it.

I met him at the pub once and he had it there. 140k miles on the clock. He said it drove amazing and had been as reliable as a Toyota. He's got a Z06, a Challenger SRT 392 but that 911 is his favorite of the lot. He drives it all the time, rain or shine.

$170k range for a base 911 with some cool doodads seems insane to me. These were $135k range for 992.1 and $115k range for 991.2. You can probably find a low mileage 991.2 one under $100k

Yup thats the rub... can get either a gently used previous gen for less.... or something higher spec for the same.

It's a lot of money for a bottom-of-the-barrel 911. This 26-year-old at work just bought one and I was appalled at how much he spent on an entry-level 911.

T trim level doesn't make sense. It's just a base plus some options. Macan T is the same in principle.

I get it, it's marketing. And it's just a base plus some options.

tbh don’t see what value you are getting. f82 m4 is 3500lbs and stage 1 tunes are 560hp 570tq. 3300lb base+mods 911T at $150-160K is hard pass for me. think you can get a much better spec in pre owned market.

This post is referring to the 992.2 that’s not out yet. The T has been around since 2018

Well the engine is in a different place and the interior is far superior on the 911.... also it's a 911. Porsche was never the value buy.

The manual is the big draw for me. Can't get a manual in a base/S/GTS.

That doesn't mean you won't be able to buy a base Carrera/S/GTS with a manual transmission in the future. Porsche never came out and said that the manual transmission is dead for the 911.

This is not the first time Porsche has done this. I don`t know if you remember, but when the 911 992 generation came out it wasn’t available with a manual transmission for over a year, and then they brought it back.

I've owned 3 Porsche cars the last one a 2003 996 Turbo w/6-speed. Awesome cars though pricey. Expensive to buy (and maintain) and that is even more so now. (The Turbo I bought 6 years old with <10K miles for $57.7K. New the car stickered for $119K.)

If you do buy the car I would *not* tune it, at least not while the warranty was in effect. My Turbo with <10K miles had several problems while covered by the 2 year/100K mile CPO warranty that came with the car. (Shifter broke. Transmission leaked and was replaced. Radiator fan motor shaft snapped and took out a radiator. Clutch power assist system went bad. Fortunately all covered by warranty. Unfortunately the problems kept coming after the warranty expired. But my bad experience with the Turbo and its problems was the exception.)

Still the Turbo was an awesome car. Good performance. Good road car. And I commuted to work/back (60 miles a day) in it several days a week.

In spite of my experience with the Turbo at one point I looked to buy another Porsche. A Carrera S in I think the color was Miami Blue (?). Don't remember the model year but it was the 1st year the 911 was available with rear wheel steering, which this car had.

The car was leased by the dealer's parts department manager. He returned the car after just 5K miles. (No problems with the car he decided to drive some Audi for a while.) Anyhow, he talked to me about specing the car and I was thinking at the time when this car came off of lease I'd buy it. But the car was snapped up almost the minute it hit the floor and the buyer paid several tens of thousands of dollars more for the car than I had calculated it was worth.

I checked out multiple 911s and just drove my neghbrs 718 4cyl. They use plastic everywhere and blanks for switchgear just like other mass manufacturers. I did not see that far superior interior at a much higher price. Maybe it’s superior to G8x now that they have ipads with bracket. We are talking about $150k base+ 911 but anyhow gl with your plans and hope you enjoy it!

Porsche is accelerating interior cheapening as noted above. Another clear example is cheapening in 9Y0.2 Cayenne vs .1.

Reasons for this are clear. Customers will still pay the price. VAG is bleeding cash.

Cash VAG spent on EV development (Taycan, Macan, new "large" 3-row Porsche SUV, Audi and Volkswagen models), whatever its outcome may be, needs to be replenished with cash generated by higher profits from cheapened core models. It's just business.

Porsche is the cash pump for VAG.
