LA Canyons

Just moved to Cerritos. Any twisty roads close enough? Angeles Crest is kind of a hike.

Seems like the closest places are, Angeles Crest, Azusa, and a lil further, Ortega Highway.

Man I miss all of the canyons I had in North County SD & the surrounding areas

Yeah, not many options here in socal. NorCal has the best canyons Fs, I wanna go hit Topanga so bad, but it’s so damn far.

Welp, I'll continue this thread anyway. Finally made my way back to Angeles Crest. It's been at least a few years. Last time I was there, my 135i engine blew...but I was happy that they paved Big Tujunga Canyon, or at least he majority of it. Real Smooth. I was kind of bummed that Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Road was closed, but it seems liked only the bikes were able to squeeze by the Road Closed signs.

The other road I had some fun on Palos Verdes Dr E in Rancho Palos Verdes. Definitely not the greatest, but it wasn't a pain in the ass to get to, and no traffic!

Try Lambert @ 57 in Brea. There are back to back 180s downhill, along with some 90 degree turns.

There are some homes in Sleepy Hollow so some caution is needed watch locals entering the road.

I'm in Long Beach and there aren't any good driving roads for miles around here. And, if you do find a few nice curves there is usually enough traffic that you don't want to endanger anyone. With that in mind...

PCH between Corona del Mar and Laguna Beach,
CA33 between Laguna Beach and the 405,
The road around Palos Verdes Peninsula (noname mentioned above)
The Pasadena Fwy between Pasadena and the I5 interchange,

Other than these you need to go further afield for some nice driving roads with curves.

Yeah that 110 is nice with no traffic. I used to hit that up on my bike on weekends at like 6am starting from Chinatown

Finally got around to checking out Azusa Canyons. There must have been a BMW meet. I saw at least 30 BMW from old e28s to new M3s all coming down.

I definitely liked it because there was a ton of tight turns but… the traffic that seemed to have nowhere to pull over. The road was pretty narrow in some spots and there were plenty of bicycles.

Watching the sportbikes was really nice too, they own those canyons pretty much.

GMR can be quite dangerous due to how narrow the road is and how some blind turns have no barrier keeping you from flying off the mountain. Just a word of precaution. Be safe out there!

I took a long drive last weekend and checked out CA 18 over by San Bernardino. I loved how it is 2 lanes for most of the way and no traffic (Sun was just coming up as I arrived.) I didn't run the whole way tho. Stopped around Running Springs and went back down.

Check it out if you guys are in the area!

Turnbull canyon was fun back in the day. Haven't been there in years. It's probably the closest one to you.

Went out to Malibu over the weekend real early. PCH to Decker Road to Mulholland to Latigo Canyon Road and back to PCH.

Surprised there are so many cops there. My V1 saved my ass a few times.

I’m jealous of anyone that is on the westside. These are hands down the best roads I’ve been on so far.

I used to commute from Elsinore into OC on the Ortega every day for almost 10 years. At the time, I had a 325i w/ manual trans - it was so great. I was early enough in the day to miss most of the traffic chain. Really enjoyed that road, especially once I got to know every little dip/crack/bump. Woe to you if there was an accident though, which would always temporarily shut down the road. At the time there was no cell service for much of the drive so I always kept a book in the car in case I would get caught sitting for awhile, which happened occasionally. Some nasty accidents on that road too.

Checked out Little Tujunga Canyon today. Lil tight in a few areas but definitely could use a repave.

Upper Big Tujunga Canyon is back open for “local” traffic

Went up PCH - Decker - Mulholland Hwy early morning yesterday. Man I haven't seen so many cops up on PCH before. I counted at least 15 running radar or hiding with laser before 8AM on Saturday.
