Very annoyed with a firmware issue after recent remote “upgrade”.

Voice Command Siri (press and hold) no longer works. When applying via press and hold CarPlay disconnects (!).

I use this function all the time. Mainly to ask Siri to call someone.

Anyone else experiencing this issue?

There is a setting, and I can't remember exactly where, where you choose what the steering wheel microphone button does and you can specify that the long press brings up Siri.

I think it happens when you set up a new iPhone, so delete your iPhone from iDrive 8 and then add it as a new iPhone and it should come up during that process.

The setting is in "Voice control" section:

Voice control from third-party providers
Depending on the equipment, third-party voice control can be activated by pressing and holding the microphone button on the steering wheel.
1. Apps menu
2. "Vehicle apps"
3. "System settings"
4. "Voice control"
5. "Long press"
6. Select the desired setting.


There is Google Assistant or Siri to select, but I also had the case where the settings for Google Assistant was missing. Appeared by itself after iDrive restart.

Thanks all.

The issue is resolved after resetting the “hey BMW” activation word.

There is something mentioned in the release notes about this as well.
