is the '21's exhaust note that much worse than the '20? is it purely a software thing?

i've been looking for '20s almost exclusively for this reason.

Sounds like you already know the answer to your question if you're shooting exclusively for a 2020.

The ‘21+ models lack the burbles and upshift farts that the 2020s had. To get the burbles on the 21+ models you need an engine tune which involves sending the DME to Femto in Finland. To get the upshift farts, you just need XHP trans tune.
