i4 eDrive 40 Battery Repair Fault/Help - Safety Plug
Hello all!
I recently made the mistake of buying a crash damaged BMW i4. My dad's friend owns a pretty successful garage and he suggested it would be easy to repair. After leaving the car with him for almost 3 months he had done nothing! So I decided to take the car home to see what I can do. Here's where I'm at: -I've dropped down the HV battery and changed the pss1 and pss4 fuses in the SME unit. -I've changed the battery safety cable on the 12v battery (bst/pyro) -I've changed/reconditioned all airbags and reinstalled everything. -The body work is the only other thing still pending. The issue I'm having is I cannot seem to clear this specific fault and can't determine what's causing it: SME: 21F152 - High-voltage batter unit, safety function: High-voltage safety plug open. The connector in the boot that disables the HV system seems to be in 1 piece. Not sure what else it could be. Does anyone have any clue? Thanks, Fayaz |

I know there's a 100amp fuse in the little box accessible from under the battery, I tested this for continuity and it was good. Is there another fuse I'm missing? Thanks in advance. |

In that box is another pyro fuse pss6, you need to take out high voltage battery again and change it... anyway i changed all that 3 pyro fuses but car doesn’t run… have similar problem like yours crash data is still in sme module. Probably need to buy new sme box from dealership and code it. But its need ista online coding

Changed the PSS6 which I believe is a "normally open" fuse and it had indeed blew so thank you! This unfortunately still hasn't cleared any more faults.
Tempted to change the whole SME and the high voltage panel.... I might take a look at the wiring diagram first to see if "high voltage safety plug open" might relate to anything else..... £2200 is a lot of money to spend on something I'm not 100% sure about though. Maybe I'll remove the 100amp fuse and see what error code pops up and try diagnose that way. Running out of options. |
