I've ordered an M340i in TBII over cognac but have started to second guess my choice. I absolutely love the colour, particularly when you get that incredible metallic pop, but (and I believe i'm in the minority here) I don't like the black highlights and prefer chrome to provide some contrast and brightness. As such, I haven't ordered the shadowline option. Problem for me though is that the LCI has that black rear diffusor, black tail pipes and black mirrors anyway and I can't see any option to change them out (short of painting mirror and diffusor body colour).
The other issue is i'm pretty OCD and hate dirty cars and swirl marks. After owning a black Macan GTS I swore I wouldn't have another black car and expect i'm walking into the same trap, lol.

Is TBII really a pain to maintain? Any other ideas on options to remove some of the black trim?

In my experience, no more so than black. Have to maintain a strict washing procedure to avoid swirls (but I would do that anyway). I'm really pleased with my colour choice. Looks great in sunlight and subdued in shade. Added bonus is that there aren't too many around in this colour so gives me something a little different.

I imagine the rear diffuser and mirrors could be painted body color by a body shop. The exhaust tips would need to be replaced.

I’m so all over the place with this color. My M440i is likely to enter production in a week and I selected tanzanite. All the variations in the color depending on the lighting are really great. I tend to prefer the darker shades but it’s also nice to see it pop in the sunlight.

However, there are some days where at least in pictures it looks a little dull. I’m so torn. Part of me wonders if I should switch to something like a Jerez Black that’s a bit darker and has more attitude.

Under the leaden skies of the UK - mid-winter - Tanzanite Blue still has a depth that I just don't see in the other BMW colours - although a couple of people have posted shots of special individual paints that give the same impression
Even under artificial lights (work carpark) the "metallic particles" still pick-up the light
I have zero regrets - TB2 all the way

Is TB too blue in direct sun? I’m so confused by all the variations of this color. I’m freaking out and thinking I might need to redo my order and wait an extra 4 months to get carbon black.

Hello There. I have both colors. Carbon Black looks black until you get closer to it you will see the blue under tones. Tanzanite looks blue but when the light hits it the silver tones come to life. Both are beautiful but be prepared they are hell to keep clean. I did a posting on this topic. Also in case you are wondering my M340i is posted here in the thread. Pics were taken on the day of delivery.

Thanks! This is very helpful. Totally prepared for the labor of love cleaning it. Might ceramic coat. At this point I’m not sure if carbon black is worth waiting for the next allocation plus another 2-3 months to build. Who knows though.

Do you by chance have pictures of both your cars? Which color do you think you’d prefer on a M440?

For the 440 definitely tanzanite. The other half won’t let me post the 6. Paranoid about his car floating out on the web. Lol , yes I know. To see what the m440 looks like in tanzanite. Just scroll through the thread they are quite a few beautiful ones here
I totally get it about not wanting to wait additional months for the carbon black. I missed two body styles before I got tanzanite. The last two times I went to order a car tanzanite was discontinued, but I finally got it. Basically waited 6 years to get it. Yes I am very patient. Lol. Keep us posted.

Tanzanite Blue II in cloudy conditions vs peak sunlight. I love how different it can look based on the lighting! First pic is from the day I brought it home from the dealership. Second pic is after it was washed and ceramic coated. Absolutely love the color and I don't regret it at all.

Here’s mine in its demo form after driving in the rain. I’m impressed it looks so nice even dirty…although it’s a demo the only other driver has been the salesman. It sits in the corner of the lot waiting for me to drive it until it’s pulled from “demo” status. Really lucked out

Just love this colour on my G21, it has so much depth and different shades depending on lighting

It can go from a stylish deep dark blue to a beautiful deep metallic. Personally I think it looks great with the Fjord blue interior, but I know some people have problems with blue interiors
