2024 330i xdrive diff/trans fluid smell venting into cabin
Anyone else have a similar issue? I have. 2024 330i xdrive with 1600 miles and I have trans or a diff fluid smell coming in the cabin when sitting at a stop light. When driving there is no smell. Service adviser took it for a spin and he can’t smell anything. This has just started. There was initial burn off smell that was gone with in 100 miles after picking it up, but didn’t expect this. Love the car, but this is little surprising.
Just got this vehicle 5 weeks ago after being out of BMW for 8 years. Previous ride was 2004 M3. |

Cabin intake located in the wheel wells. When you stop the heat of the engine causes it to go into that location, taking with it any odors that might lurk in the engine bay. Make sure you don't have any oil leaks beneath the engine. Also check the sound proofing cover underneath the oil pan that it's not soaked in oil.

Dealership checked it and did not find any leaks. The ony thing is they drove it for 2miles which means neither trans or diff temps got hot. When I asked them about why didn’t you drive it longer to get the temps up, service adviser replied we can get the trans temp up while idling. Ok. I asked about differential and he said the same thing. At that point I realized what time it is.
