Black rims (791M)... do you wax them?

I saw a video of a detailer saying he waxes gloss black powder coated rims in order to keep them easy to clean. I don't know why this didn't occur to me, I guess I'm old school and used to dealing with brake dust that's already there with wheel cleaner, but it seems like a brilliant idea to me.

Do you guys do this? Any drawbacks or things to be aware of (types of wax that would hurt powdercoated finish)?

Ceramic coating rims helps tremendously with brake dust and dirt.

Thanks -- do BMW dealers typically offer ceramic coating (on entire car, not just wheels) just prior to delivery?

Some do, some don't. However I would find a reputable detail place and have it done yourself. It's expensive as it is, you don't need dealer markup on top.

That's a good point -- but for me sometimes time is at a higher premium than money. I used to work from home, where having it sit with a detailer for a day was less of an issue, but lately convenience factor has been elevated in importance to me.

However as I've been doing some research, some folks are saying that if you ever find yourself succumbing to tunnel wash instead of hand washing, ceramic coating is not a good plan because then the coating takes the damage from brushes. I've had good luck with tunnel washes and just keeping a good coat of wax on it, done twice a year or so. Finding the 40 mins or so to do an occasional wax application is much easier than repeatedly finding time for hand washes.

I thought ceramic coating before delivery might be a nice to have, but I think I may end up sticking with what has worked for me.

I would recommend ceramic coating as others have - I have had good results with Gyeon rim. About $50 for a vial of high-temperature ceramic coating that has enough for 2 sets of wheels. Very easy to DIY.
