The sunroof is a major problem it flexes and creaks, I have like 2 lbs of foam stuffed under the rear deck bc it rattled and still does, front console/nav rattles over bumps

So I just returned a 2017 M3 competition package off lease. After three years, I can say that particular car had more rattles and squeaks than all my previous cars combined, and I am OLD (58).
I'm not sure what the hell BMW is doing, but the buzzes squeaks and rattles ruined the experience of that car. Completely unacceptable. The M340 I test drove seemed rock solid. Even the way the doors sounded when they closed. I was hoping the new model would be better. This thread make me wonder. |

Yes, I tried some wd40 dry lube to minimize the rattle from centre console, but it doesn't work 😭😭

My car is absolutely squeak and rattle free after 5 months. The rear trunk trim creaking and the front speaker vibration, which I fixed myself, have been my only issues. I’m surprised by this.... every car I’ve ever owned had some sort of a rattle except my Lexus IS F. Seems like all cars eventually develop rattles so we’ll see how long it lasts.

Found the Rattle - - - - And Fixed It
My M340 has 1500 miles, 19'' Mich. non- RF tires and non-adaptive suspension. I was getting an intermittent rattle over 'moderate' bumps, but not when I had a passenger, so I suspected it was the seat, but couldn't duplicate trying to move the seat around violently. Then I saw the seat belt buckle hitting the door post which is covered by hard plastic. As a trial, I Scotch taped a piece of quarter inch black foam over the door post. Car is now dead silent. It ain't pretty, but no one will ever notice it down there anyway. I'm sure I will make it a little less "cludgie" sometime soon. |

Zero rattles in here including the sunroof.
Regular suspension w/ 18" Non-Runflats. This is one of the best build BMWs, I have owned.

Sometimes, and only sometimes my car gets big rattles when under sport mode and RPM hits 3.5-5k range, somewhere above/around the infotainment screen rattles crazy. Absolutely fine on comfort and at that RPM

My 330 is extremely quiet. My F30 was a literal orchestra of squeaks, rattles, creaks and cracks. It sounded like someone was squeezing an empty plastic water bottle when I drove. You could press anywhere on the dash, doors ... wherever and it would make creaking noises. Just terrible.
The new 3 series, in my experience is an excellent step up in interior quality, fit and finish. |

My m340 makes little noise.
It's about as quiet as the F 30 .... I wouldn't say it's any better or worse. |

First year model cars always have mode rattles. The subsequent year models get fine tuned (strategically placed rubber inserts or felt tapes) as customer feedbacks accumulate through dealer repairs. You are basically doing the testing and bug fixes for car manufacturers.

Mine seems to come from back seats/rear door.
I did find out once on my old 5 series that when the dealer cleans the car and used silicone based products on door seals and steering column cover it makes them sound like they creak/rattle when driving.

My m340i sunroof rattles at times, wind noise from a-pillar at times, rear diff leaks after hard acceleration. Previous F30 was a better built car.

I've had several issues with creaking myself (m340i). The arm rest on the driver's door would creak whenever I shut the door and rested my arm on the arm rest. Brought it to my local BMW service and they identified a broken clip as the culprit. Thankfully that got fixed, but WTF with BMW QC? Now, I've noticed that the exterior door handles on all the doors creak when lightly depressed, and they all seem to have a lot play as I can basically move them north/south, a lot. This issue is especially pronounced with the door handle on the driver's door (the worst spot, of course). I'm sure this will be fixable as well, but what a frickin hassle! I've barely put 1,000 miles on this car and I've found so many issues that they way outnumber anything I've ever experienced with all of the BMWs I've owned in my life combined (8, including this car). Nice car, but what a disappointment.

I haven't had it long but so far less rattles and more solid feeling interior than my previous '18 Lexus IS350, 19 Audi S4, and 19 Audi S5.

Mine is pretty quiet... especially since I just had the buzzing centre speaker cover fixed at the dealership. I might be getting that famous rear trunk (boot) rattle but only occasionally. A little wind noise. That's about it. Seems pretty solid to me so far. The car randomly starting itself is not resolved... but that issue is covered in another thread.
