Can I Refuse Software update?

Can I refuse the software update when I bring my car in for its first scheduled maintenance with the dealership? I have 2900 miles on the clock and will be purchasing a mission performance tune. I don't want them to lock out the tune when I bring the car in. It is a lease, and not a purchase.

Of course you can. But you also can't really make any complaints about issues you're having if they relate to iDrive.

I held out until I got the recall notices. It makes it a LOT harder to tune after but I got the updates and the (CarBahn) tune now.

Considering the improvements it made over the first few years of the F30 after real world experience and feedback, I'd say it's ridiculous to pass on it.

Yeah since it's still a new gen car I'd say the updates are going to be important and probably fix a lot of bugs etc that you'll be otherwise missing

I just spoke with Alex at Mission Performance as I successfully flashed my M340i a week ago and asked if the dealer now updates/flashes my car, will it then lock my ECU forcing me to send it to MP. I'm having the known iDrive/Car Play issues and want the dealer to try to fix it. Alex said if I flash it back to stock and leave it "Unlocked" then it should protect it no matter what the dealer does. He did say there was a very "minor" chance the dealer could cause it to lock. I may be the guinea pig and do this.

I don't think you're the first for this. Mine got locked (Carbahn tune) after the most recent update and I had to take it back to get re loaded......
