Same thoughts...

But again an BMW M iconic thing more that is gone...no power dome anymore.

Instead some "let's put some more shapes on the hood, it will look even more Japanese", as if the whole front is not already busy enough...
Agreed it's rather sad to see the iconic ///M power dome not being continued for the new generation...however the only M3 that actually NEEDED the power dome was the e9x M3..

Maybe this goes to show BMW isn't trying to fake it anymore??
Agreed, it was not needed but became an icon that was subtle and classy IMO

The hood above is somehow not at all the classy and elegant „BMW Design language" for me...to me it looks more like:
What else could we do here...ahhh lets put some more shapes...

It looks like a „forced distinction" and „we have to somehow differentiate it even more from the non-M car" without putting a lot of effort in doing it the BMW way...just my feelings.

Did the E90 M3 really need it? Generally V8s are smaller in height and length than an I6 only being much wider. Surely it depends on many different things though and the width could have required it to move up a bit to accommodate other parts of the car.

Not 100% sure, but didn't the S65 have individual throttle bodies for each cylinder. I'm sure the bulge is likely exaggerated for looks, but it is probably still needed for the engine, just not to the extent that they designed it to.

That's a good point. Requiring 8 throttle valves probably requires a lot of ducting on the intake manifold. Though I'm sure if they had to they could have fit it in the standard hood.

This ///M power dome started with the E46 M3. Did it need it? I don't think so.
Did E92/E90 need power dome? Yes, because of the engine/beauty cover, not because of the engine size itself.

Like others mentioned, this could be a Ford Mustang's hood?

Again, why does the M3 get the face of the 4 series? If they spend this effort to differentiate the 4 from it, why put its face back on the 3 series? I bought the 3 series because i wanted the 3 series.

This is a frankenstein's monster kind of deal. I just dont get it.

I mean, the E90 M3 did the same if you'd consider the E90 the 3 and the E92 the 4...

People on this forum don't want a "performance" car that weighs as much as a Suburban
