Lokg story short I ordered replacement Michelin PS4S tires through America's Tire. I thought I had ordered the BMW star branded PS4S. Just yesterday I discovered I had the standard PS4S; I called the shop and their system showed I had ordered the standard tires. But they offered to swap it out for the BMW star at no added cost.
I've driven the car for a week and honestly can't tell the difference; granted I don't track. Should I keep the tire or take them up on the offer to install the BMW star? I may have read on this forum that some M owners are ditching the BMW star tires. |

Agree- keep the ones you got. I'm going with Continentals soon, even though I am completely satisfied with the PS4S.

I would take up on AT's offer to swap back to BMW star ones because this clip says the BMW star ones are better than standard ones.
The specs of both tires appear to be similar with the same 22lb of weight, but the clip says different compounds are used in the BMW star tires. |

Depending on your climate and region, I would suggest keeping the standard PS4S. The standard version has better wet performance, if that is a concern for you.

As "bavarianride" showed, there is a significant difference between the two. I would get the BMW * tires.

I'm familiar with the video - but I don't track my car so hardly feel the difference shown in the video. I drive spiritedly when I need to; but not aggressively.
Perhaps the only factor that will make me lean towards BMW * is the dry grip. In CA wet surface isn't much of a concern; although that appears to be changing - thanks to climate change. |

Honestly, if you don't care about the differences between these two, why even get the PS4S, why not get some cheaper Kuhmo or other tire?
You don't have to put PS4S on them. But if you want the absolute best out of your car then the PS4S* is what it was designed for. |

For normal driving (at least in CA) what I've gathered so far is that one can't go wrong with either the OE or star tire. |

I think PS4 or PS4* can't handle Bay Area's cold wet season as well as the all-season tires(* or otherwise).

As long as you got a full set I would stay with what you have. My issue was I picked up a nail during my 1100 mile drive home from a Performance Center delivery in October 2022 and there was a 4 month wait for "star" tires so I have one non-star rear tire.

Looks like the BMW star tires may have higher wear. I replaced my OE star tires at 18k miles. I've had the non star ones now for about 6k miles and can't tell the difference either. Since you don't track the car, I say stay with the non star ones and hopefully get better tread life.

For context I changed my tire at around 20K. Which seems reasonable; granted I have a staggered setup so no tire rotation like the square setup. |

I suppose I'll find out for myself in about 12k miles when I get to the same mileage on my current set. |

They are both rated at 300 tire wear, meaning they wear at the same rate under the same circumstances.
