Jb+ and B48B20A?

Hi,

I was thinking about getting a JB+. I've a 330e with the "A" engine (same as the one in later 320i) but all related threads I could find are about the B48B20B or B58 so I've some quesrions:

1. It's the max 4.5 psi boost safe for this engine or should I lower it? I've been told that the A engines enter danger zone at about 18 psi. Btw, what is the default boost on these engines?

2. I usually would have no problem using 93/98 gas but sometimes when on a long trip and stop at a random station they only have 91/95, what boost would be safe in that case?

Thanks!

3psi over stock added (91 octane)
4psi over stock added (91-93 octane)

If you are running 93, you can be on the +4 range. If you are running 91, you should stick to +3 or get a JB4 instead.

Its not a good idea to go aggressive with a tuner that cannot datalog and does not have any safety failsafes. the Jb4 is the better option in this case

Thanks Mike, I'll run 3 psi then. Do you know of dyno results on the B48B20A? I'm getting the JB+ first to test the waters because I'm still in warranty and it looks super simple to remove if I've to visit the dealer. Also, it looks like JB4 requires a connection to the OBD port and mine is taken by my dashcam (I could get a cable to connect the dashcam to some fuse in the future if I want to free the port for JB4).

Yep. I logged the actual psi with a boost controller and it works perfectly (unlike the turbotransformer I had before that boosted very randomly and sometimes wayyy over my +2psi limit). Good gadget.

I just got my JB+ yesterday. Drove it for about 30 minutes before really getting on it. I wasn't expecting much, but it def delivers a nice extra shove in the back. Particularly in the 40-80 mph range. My car is a short term lease, so this is perfect and such a great value.

I eventually switched to the JB4 (map 1 with 91 or 2 with 93) but 0 issues with either the JB+ or JB4.
