Another m340i engine noise ticking

Hello, I am having a dilema buying a BMW M340i. The vehicle has 130.000 km and it will be my first BMW. Just wanted to ask if the engine noise sound thicking wine is normal for BMW or something is off? I've never had a BMW before, don't know how it should sound, or drive, just read lot off good things about the b58 and M340i vehicles. Hope you guys can help. Thank you very much in advanced.

Sounds normal, if you ever think the idle is sounding weird, just turn ur ac on and off to see if it’s that cause the ac makes a weird sound at idle.

Guys thx alot, that makes me feel soo much better, guess it is all normal. I thought bmw engines b58 should be one of the best, very refined, never thought it would sound this weird. I've heard V6 from audi, diesel and petrol, that sounded quieter.

Direct injection combined with solenoid ijnectors generates the diesel sound at idle.

I would be more worried if the car was tuned by the prior owner. Don't want to buy someone else's ticking time bomb.

Also the B58 has a very complicated cooling system with multiple circuits not to mention the rear mounted oil filter housing. For these reasons alone I would avoid owning any B-series engine without a solid extended warranty.

Well the previous owner drove the vehicle
To work and back, still on the first set off tires. Has been serviced in bmw at the intervals. All the people say b58 is very reliable, and a quality engine. I do not attend ti remap or anything jus as a daily driver

Few are past the 5 yr / 75k mile mark. IMO that's when things can get expensive.

Just went to the BMW dealer here in Europe, and asked him about the regular service intervals and all. He said that, timing chain is for life, Transmission oil is for life, DIff oil is for life, just oil changes coolant, brake pads and thats about it. He said that the BMW says that once something seems odd or starts to give signs of wear then to see if oil in transmission or in diff, or timing chain needs changing.

if you hear it in the cabin while driving, its something else HPP is not that loud only when you open the hood. Open oil cap and check if noise is coming from an engine.
