BMW 320e xDrive Touring Luxury Line

I got the BMW "virus" because of my dad . I basically grew up hearing stories about his BMW 732i (E23) from 1981 and how much he loved it when, at some point, I told myself that I will have my own BMW someday.
The story about his BMW 732i is a book on its own.

Anyways, flash forward 2 decades and here we are. I can proudly announce I ordered my very own BMW 320e xDrive Touring a few weeks ago !

As I'm based in Europe, I had the idea to pick up the car at BMW Welt with my dad without my dad knowing what we'd be doing in Munich until we'd drive on the property of BMW Welt. Probably then he'd understand we'd do something with BMW (visiting the museum or whatever), keeping the surprise of my BMW until the last possible moment.
However, after talking to my Sales Rep for a long time and weighing the options/additional expenses and paperwork, I had to resign from the idea and come up with a new plan.
I have several back up plans to reveal my BMW to my dad and it depends when I will get the BMW delivered. More details following soon .

Back to the car itself.
So, as I mentioned already and as the title of this thread indicates, I ordered a BMW 320e xDrive Touring Luxury Line.
The expected delivery date is August 31.

There are a few options I had to resign from but none of which I can't live with. This is not new to any of you but this is basically a confirmation for new people that it's still "a thing".
1. The lumbar support for the passenger seat and the adjustments of the sides (no idea how to call this in automotive terms). What I mean here, are the supports on the side. On the driver seat, I can inflate or deflate them to give me more support but this I cannot do with the passenger seat.
2. No touch capabilities for the iDrive controller
3. Temporary resignation of some Bluetooth features but I understood, from this forum as well and from my Sales Rep, that this should get fixed soon

Delivery process
It seems that, in Europe, we can't track our cars as you guys do in the States. I cannot add my order number in "My Garage" and check it myself. I can only add the VIN and when doing so, I still don't believe I can track it the same way. I'll always be dependent on my Sales Rep but he's a nice guy so I don't expect too many problems there.

I'll try to get it confirmed by the Sales Rep if the car is supposed to come from Munich. I'd assume so and if confirmed, I do hope this means my car won't be put on a boat since I live in Poland which is a neighboring country to Germany which, hopefully, brings the delivery date closer but we'll see how it goes.

As part of the experience, I wanted to share my car with all of you and talk about it with similar minds. My wife already has enough of me talking about it . I'm just super excited!!
I think that's it for now.

Update of the progress
As I know the car will be built in Munich, I think it's fair to say it doesn't need to be shipped by ship but rather by truck or train.

I got the confirmation today that the car entered the paint booth yesterday!

Regretfully, the Sales Rep said it could still take 1 to 2 months from this point. I'd expect it a bit faster since it does not have to be shipped by boat since I live in a country next to Germany.

Nice write up.

Be interesting to see your impression of the 320e power plant.

Think you’ll be one of the first on the forum to have this engine!

Makes a chance someone going for a classic spec as oppose to msport plus spec.

Just had a look at the 320e and I didn’t realise it had been out for a while.

We don’t have that engine option in the UK.

Thanks!
Indeed, you see a lot of M-cars and high performance engines. Also on the streets so I agree that mine seems to be somewhat unique which is nice!
I do have to say that the 330e xDrive was just too expensive for my taste , then again, I have now a car with 130 bhp and no turbo so going to 205 bhp and a biturbo it will be a nice change nevertheless!

If you checked on the BMW website through the configurator, then you should ask a Sales guy at your dealer because in Poland it's not an option either on the website so I had to specifically ask for it when I was configuring my car together with the Sales guy

Did they tell you it is possible for Polish customers to collect at BMW Welt? I was informed I'd have to order through a German dealer instead because it's available only for German and Austrian dealerships.

I did ask for it but then I would need to import the car myself to Poland and it would be a "mess" with the license plates, insurance etc. I understood that the car would be registered first in Germany and then I'd need to deregister it there and then register it in Poland and whatnot. At least, that's how I understood it.
He made it sound that it would take A LOT of additional effort and money to get the car in Poland so he recommended to just visit Welt one day. He does recommend visiting Welt which I plan to do at some point and, hopefully, visit the factory as well.

Although it would have been an awesome experience, I used the money I reserved for it to take additional options ;-)

Might be different for Polska. I was told explicitly I have to order through a German dealer, which is actually not difficult if you find one that is willing to sell to a foreigner. The car would have yellow temporary plates with which you're able to export and register the car back home.

WELT and Museum are very nice. Been there recently.

Interesting, didn't know that.

WELT and the museum are definitely on the TODO list
The next meetup I have with my Sales Rep is in 2-3 weeks so fingers crossed for good news

I finally could add the VIN to my BMW profile and this is how it looks! Nice
Apparently, I can only complete the process when I have the car as I need a code that's sent to it but now at least I can see my car there. Hehehe

Due to the limited amount of truck drivers in Poland (due to the ongoing war in Ukraine), it could be that my car can get stuck at the Polish customs for a while until BMW Poland finds a truck driver to pick it up.

Since this situation, unavailability of drivers, is ongoing for several weeks now, I do hope the delay there (at the customs) will be kept to a minimum.
Then again, the car is flying through all the phases so I'm trying not to complain too much but now that we're ALREADY reaching the final phases, I'm getting super excited and can't wait to finally get it and take it for a drive

So, only 2 months from ordering to transit. That's pretty fast these days!

Yeah, I think that the situation in Europe actually helped in a way.

Orders from Russia probably got canceled and, maybe, the orders from Ukraine got postponed/put on hold for now. At least, that's how I see the logic in it. None of this is confirmed by anyone from BMW Poland by the way.

The downside in the current situation is, as I said, finding drivers to get it from the customs to the dealership.

Quick update as a lot has happened since the last post.

April 1st, I heard the news that the car is on its way to Poland (from Munich) but this would mean that the car still needs to go through customs, then a local truck driver needs to pick it up and bring it to the dealer, etc.

What are we doing/handling today
  • I learned that the car is already released from customs since the SR confirmed to have received the invoices
  • We received the leasing offer and insurance offer -> reading through the docs etc but we should have everything finalized by Monday
  • The car is probably going to arrive at the dealer any day now (today or early next week)
  • Then the car needs to be prepped (cleaned, checked, ...)
  • In the meantime, when the car is being prepped, I'm sure I'll get a phone call from the SR to schedule the big day where I'll be taking over the car

Yesterday, the SR called me and he will let me know if the car will arrive on Friday, if so, we can meet up on Saturday so I can have a small sneak preview

I'm not hoping for it because I'm too lucky as it is already.
It's crazy and almost unimaginable how fast everything went, knowing the global situation (shortages, war, ...)

I'm aiming for having the car by end of next week
