"Sport displays" in HUD

Wonder whether someone can help as either doesn't work or I am being stupid.

I have had sports display set to being always on in the HUD. This is just a rev counter. However, in normal drive mode it is fairly pointless given that the 'box changes itself way before the red line.

But I cannot get it to when I change it from "always" to "in SPORT mode". However I set up the drive modes Sport/Sport Plus in Drive/Sport/Manual it just never shows up.

Is there something I am doing wrong? Is SPORT mode something different?

Mine is doing this and started to do so after the last update, it's either on or off now

It is a bug in the last few software updates. Rumour has it that the latest update finally fixes it.
