Hi - the box on the cable says max 10amps so I charge at that. Usually takes just over 5 hours. Sometimes it reverts to 6amps which takes ages. When on public charging points if it isn’t set to 16amps I manually change it to that - charges in around 3

Ten amps is correct. You can set the car at 16 amps and it will still charge at ten.
I've got mine charging at 3.6KwH and 16 amps using a Tesla UMC and a commando socket. No need for a charge point! Last edited by DougMcL; 12-20-2020 at 03:38 PM.. |

Charging
I'd suggest you leave the car setting at 16 amps and the home charger will do it's best at 10 amps. It won't draw anything higher from a 3 pin socket.
The only reason to set the car any lower is if you are worried that the home socket or wiring might not enjoy (stand up to) 4 or 5 hours at 10 amps. In my previous plug-in hybrid I sometimes had to use an extension cable and set the car to 6 amps to stop the cable overheating. No need to worry normally about 10 amp draw from a household socket. BTW 19 miles range as a forecast is about right for this time of year. Depending on your driving style and journey you should be able to achieve a bit more, but in my experience not a lot more! |

I did about 40 miles during the day last week with no charge (I have the recall so no charging allowed) and I still managed 15 miles of that trip on electric. The electric range is quite deceptive.

We have a different understanding of "electric range" I think.
My belief is that Electric Range is miles covered on initial charge without the intervention/assistance of the ICE. If you don't charge the car and still travel 15 miles "on Electric" during a 40 mile trip, that electric is surely regenerated energy from what was originally petrol. I'm not arguing that it isn't great to harvest energy that would (and is) otherwise wasted and that, surely is, what mild hybrids do? The only real way to compare electric range, therefore, must be to measure it from a full charge without the ICE starting. Not always easy in todays traffic I accept. |

Obviously, on electric-only mode, it will eat those 19 miles pretty fast. Especially if you live in a hilly city. Mine can go from 22 to 15 just driving a mile up the road at 30 mph. But the 330e isn't an electric car, its a hybrid.

Just got my first PHEV, a 330e last week and cannot understand the Symbols on the back of the home "granny" charging unit which are associated with different combinations of the four indicator lights.
Can anyone shed some light on these please? I have also noticed that the indicator light on the charging port on the car goes out when charging after only 9 flashes. Cannot find out whether this is correct or what? |

On mine the charging port flashes blue a couple of times and stops. The blue light doesn’t need to flash all the time the car is charging. I use the app to check how far along the charge is. Or you can see in the instrument cluster when you open the door.
