stage two requires adding extra performance parts to work in conjunction with a more aggressive tune. stage one is an easy flash and requires nothing else.

What can you expect on a fully stock car with 93 octane gas? Is Stage 1 essentially completely stock?
It still says 382 horsepower stock one the bmw website how much is the power reduced is it slower from 0-60? Do you notice a difference?

If the car has a factory tune by accident them maybe they are going to sell one after all. The tune would put it close to M3 numbers so the new M3 will need close to 500 horsepower.

I don't believe this, that they detuned them.

That explains when I test drove one earlier this year it felt closer to an M3/M4 than I expected.

So if you took a test drive in an early car and then bought a later car, the one you bought might be less powerful.

That would kill me!

Yes you read it right, if you purchased one of the first vehicles in production, then you have near 400whp STOCK car. That is due to the fact that BMW forgot to implement SWT (Tuning Authorization Certificate), and thus customers received a factory tuned cars. But quick, BMW caught onto this issue, and implemented a software "fix" that limited your power a bit. This new fix limited your power to 346whp (390bhp) and yet that still was over what EPA/BMW specs should be, so early July of 2019, BMW implemented yet another software fix to bring the car down to advertised 338whp(382bhp).

I just got my car off the lot on Saturday (it was only there for a week total), and it is without a doubt MUCH faster than my straight piped JB4 Map2 335i. Let's not forget the fact that F30 340i's were dynoing at 330 or so horsepower, and I've seen plenty of people saying how big of a jump there is between the 340 and M340i.

That's literally my point. N55s with Map2 and CDP dyno at like 340-350whp, and like 400wtq. I'm saying my STOCK M340i definitely feels quicker and more torquey. Therefore, the fact that they're saying BMW has decreased the power to around 330whp sounds outlandish.

Let's not forget that Z4's (which I would assume would be a VERY good estimate) have been dynoing at like 375whp.

Once again information has been taken out of context quite a bit. The initial flash that came on M340i (the flash that was loaded at the production line, before the first cars even hit the showrooms) had a much higher output then stated by BMW. Think of it as a MPPSK version of m340i.

Dealers were issued a bulletin to update their inventory vehicles, so 99.5% of M340s that were sold/delivered, already had a 'Proper" calibration installed. Only reason I even learned about this move was due to our connection at the dealer telling me that the car I was picking up didn't have the "mandated" update on it. This raised a small flag to me so the first thing I did was run few tests of the first "pre-official" firmware version for G20 and compared it to later version. Only the "pre official" (or whatever you want to call it) version has shown a MUCH higher power increase compared to all subsequent updates.

We try our best to use the well known/trusted dyno that reads on the lower side, providing the most honest results. This specific dyno read 294whp on a stock 2016 340i followed by 338whp for the 2020 M340i. Those numbers, accounting for basic error, are exactly what those cars are advertised to produce. We can easily bring a stock M340i to a different dyno that we know of locally, and you will see a number north of 370whp stock and over 450whp on Stage 1, but what is the point? Those are not accurate numbers. As an experienced engine builder and tuner, I have learned one thing over years: Dyno numbers are worthless and you will never win a fight against science. In basic terms, engine's power output is directly proportionate to the oxygen it consumes. A stock M340i consumes 1040kg/h of oxygen, which using a basic formula translates to 38.2lb/min, or 382hp at the crank. Plain and simple, so don't try and fight science as you will lose.

So to summarize: M340i is still one hell of a fast car from the factory and is much faster then 340i. If you are one of the lucky ones to have first production firmware still on your car, then you are experiencing something that will be officially released as MPPSK for this chassis by BMW. So there is nothing to complain about as BMW has delivered exactly why you have paid for.

Oh lord.

If it puts out more than its stock rating, that's not false advertising brah... and it's not like the power isn't there ? A tune can unlock it.

ps. Would it be wrong for the OEM to offer multiple levels of tune .... ? And charge you for that higher state of tune ... ? A " competition package does just such a thing but a tune could be a standalone item.

Yes exactly. # because WARRANTY.

BMW isn't gonna max out their engine design BECAUSE they warranty your car for YEARS OF USE.

A tuner can max your car out and has no responsibility to replace your drivetrain.

So.... may M340 to the US in May, I took delivery one June 3rd. I can't say for certain whether or not BMW "updated" the car, but my question is..... do I just not allow the auto updates? They're all over the air now. Also, I leased this one... not really able to tune too much.

Great work! I know manufacturers tune down motors but it is ludicrous that BMW let early cars out with that kind of power for such a car. They have got to be kicking themselves for that! That's like a manufacturer chumming the shark tuner waters and inviting y'all in.

I see that as a sneaky way to get higher output cars to people on those earlier test drives for initial impressions. My guess is people weren't supposed to find out about it.

That's wild... seems like the ceiling for the b58 without new turbos is still under 500whp (which is still incredible).

You have to think that with the success of the MPPSK for the F30 340, and now with the early production tune "issue", that BMW is trying to control and sell tuning of its own. Maybe next we will see an M Performance downpipe... lol...

I'm still curious about what the S58 will have in store for us... twin turbo B58 sounds like an amazing idea to me... and if you're saying that the turbo is the weak link on the B58 at high outputs, I can only imagine what the S58 will be capable of.

Either way pretty cool that you guys are plowing ahead with this, my hat goes off to you and I'm looking forward to see your future progress.
