If the G20 wasn't available, what vehicle would you get? Need recommendations!
I guess this is directed more at the 330i owners...just to get some ideas. We need to get a second car (primarily for my wife) and she doesn't want an SUV (crossover is okay)
So if the G20 330i had ended up being a big disappointment what car would you guys have gotten instead? Requirements- Less than 185 inches, solidly tight handling, she prefers lighter steering than 330i(but still needs to be quick and direct), Should hit 60 in at least 7 sec and be able to do at least 30 mpg. Lease needs to be under 500 per month. Right now- looking at the Golf GTI but it doesn't seem to lease well at all. Quote was higher than my 330i. Any other ideas? |

Audi A3? It's on its last year for the current model so some good deals are out there.

If she's OK with Mini styling, that's still a fun car to drive. |

Why not just get another 330i? Is it because she prefers lighter steering?

She also thinks the 330i is a bit too firm and feels too big. She liked our F30 much better. See, BMW is sacrificing their customer base for us all. May just end up going with the X1 even though it's hideous. Calling it an SUV is a stretch. I see a bunch on swapalease for under 400. Last edited by alpinewhite3; 02-02-2020 at 12:12 PM.. |

If it wasn’t the G20 for me, I’d have gone back to an Audi A4. You should be able to get a good deal on a 2019 A4 B9 since the facelifted 2020 A4 B9.5 is beginning to hit the showrooms.
Steering is lighter than the 330i. Car is comfortable to drive. It’s more spacious inside. Bigger trunk too. The B&O sound system is miles better. And the 2.0 245hp (ex-252 hp) engine is as fast, if not faster, than the 2.0 in the 330i. And if you don’t want to lease a brand new car, I’d recommend you check out swapalease. You get some good gems once in a while.

I'm browsing swapalease and leasehackr as we speak. Found a decently equipped X1 for 389. May not be a terrible choice at that price point but i think i can do better. |

I can't really comment since I pretty much need a 6 cylinder but I can tell you that the Audi A4/A5 is a pretty good car.
I rented one with Silvercar on a recent trip and the tech is pretty good, quality is good, and it looks pretty sharp for both the exterior and interior. The turbo 4 felt like it had more than enough power too. Steering was light but still had good feedback however the one thing the 330i has above the A4 is that the Quattro AWD system is front wheel biased and it doesn't feel as good as xdrive. Other than that maybe the Genesis G70 is something to consider. I've seen a few out in the wild and they look pretty nice but I'm not sure about how they drive and what the real world lease pricing on those are. It even comes in a RWD+manual config if that's something you're into. Last edited by NYC_340i; 02-02-2020 at 05:40 PM.. |

The G70 is not bad but I would not compare it to Germans. I like how the g70 looks. Hell. I even like the stinger GT. But the 2.0 inline 4 turbo engines feel more punchy, especially in traffic. The 3.3 V6 felt lethargic to me. In sport mode though, it was fast. Also, I couldn’t throw it around like I did my A4. The tech was better in my A4. More features too. And when I asked them about leasing, they gave me absurd rates. They wanted around $650 a month with zero down 10k miles a year for a $48k MSRP car. I’d pick one of the Germans over the G70.

Second this. Go for the 350. Has the dynamic you’re looking for. Only thing is don’t expect as good gas mileage and as many technology options as the 330i.

If you need some basic practical hatches, either a Mazda 3, GTI or maybe even a Elantra GT N-Line should do the job well.
If your looking for utility without it being an SUV, the best type of vehicle would be a station wagon (that is if your wife likes them), the leftover Golf Wagons/Alltracks could be good, or even a Volvo V60 or Audi A4 Allroad, however the leases on those might not fit the bill (would have to check into that). As for crossovers, CX-5 Turbo or maybe a Lexus NX could be nice.
