Siri in idrive 7

Is Siri accessible through the steering wheel voice button? It used to be (at least in idrive 6) you could hold the voice button for 2-3 seconds and it would then connect to Siri, as opposed to the idrive assistant. Now that functionality seems to be gone. Unless it works only if you have CarPlay active, which I don't. Any thoughts?

I've read multiple reviews saying pressing is BMW assistant holding is Siri. Not sure if CarPlay must be active. It's something you can try out I'd say.

Of course you need some kind of BT connection.

I should clarify that I do have my iphone X connected through Bluetooth. I suppose I can set up CarPlay and test it that way.

If you are using CarPlay, then a log press activated Siri, short press is native bmw.

Siri is only functional when CarPlay is configured. They disable it when you configure iDrive as your interface. I've spoken with Genius's and Customer Relations and they won't budge. Their standard response is "That’s normal operation" .

I’ve not got CarPlay but I can access Siri by the long press. My screen changes and says external, and I can hear the Siri sound. However the car won’t let me talk to Siri.

Anyone had this issue?

"Hey Siri" seems to work for me in CarPlay mode. Not sure if its just my phone picking it up or the car's microphone, but it switches to the Siri UI on the iDrive display.
