Sigh. I just don't know what happened to this company. I was in love with Mitsubishi in the 90's. They made good-looking, exciting cars. The boosted Eclipses and VR-4 3000GTs and Galants, and even the full-size Montero. Things went downhill fast early 2000s and I'm genuinely shocked they're still operating today her in the US market.

I wondered about Mitsubishi sales numbers and they are better than I expected.

Cut out the top brands in the 2020 list below but they aren't anywhere close to the bottom. Interesting they are above Alfa, Infiniti, Genesis, Land Rover, Mini, and Jaguar (some by a large margin)

Alfa Romeo 18,581
Volvo------ 107,626
Lincoln---- 105,410
Porsche--- 57,294
Chrysler---110,464
Land Rover 79,442
Lamborghini 2,263
Bentley----1,553
Rolls Royce1,119
Ferrari-----2,028
Mini--------28,138
Genesis----16,384
Mitsubishi 87,387
Infiniti------79,502
Maserati----5,214
Jaguar------17,976
Fiat---------4,294

That front looks like an ugly chipmunk or someone that just had their wisdom teeth taken out! Mitsubishi became irrelevant as a car company eons ago, and this ain’t helping.

The thing is other than Fiat, all the brands they are higher than are luxury brands which will bring in larger profits even with smaller sales numbers. I can't imagine these Mitsubishi's are selling for high prices either, I'm sure the discounts are through the roof.

Agree to a certain extent but many of the statements were about being surprised they still existed and volume, not about profits. There must be a decent amount of them on the road.

Even at good margins some of these brands are barely on the radar. Can't see Maserati making money with what they sell. Mini at a 3rd of the sales (maybe a strange sort of luxury?), Alfa at a 5th of the sales, Genesis even lower, Chrysler's nowhere close to luxury and sales are better but not worlds better. I expect Chrysler to go away, what was the last new Chrysler model?

Good point. Maybe they are selling as rentals? I swear I can't recall the last time I saw a new Mitsubishi on the road, or even where the nearest dealer would be.

I'm curious as to why Mitsu still sell cars in NA, it has to be a money losing enterprise.

I think nu-Mitsu aims to compete with base Nissans now. I don't think they even reach up to the Kia/Hyundai market anymore, much less pretending to compete with Mazda.

2022 Mitsubishi Outlander Priced From $26,990, First Deliveries Start This April

Quote:
Mitsubishi has announced pricing and range details for the all-new 2022 Outlander, which will arrive at dealerships across the U.S. in April 2021.

Prices for the all-new Mitsubishi Outlander start from $26,990, including a $1,195 destination fee, for the base ES trim level. Mitsubishi’s Super All-Wheel Control all-wheel-drive system can be added to any trim level for an additional $1,800.

The base ES trim level of the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander features 18-inch alloy wheels, an 8-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as Forward Collision Mitigation, Blind Spot Warning, and Rear Automatic Emergency Braking.

Aside from the base ES model, the range includes the ES with ES Convenience Package, SE, limited SE Launch Edition, SE with SE Tech Package, SEL, SEL S-AWC Launch Edition, and the SEL with Touring Package.

SE models, priced from $30,040, and above come with Mitsubishi’s MiPilot Assist suite of systems, including Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Prevention, and Traffic Sign Recognition, as well as a multi-view camera system, wireless smartphone charging and a 9-inch infotainment system. The SE with Technology Package trim level, priced from $32,340, and above features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster as standard.

The all-new 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine producing 181 HP (184 PS) and 181 lb-ft (245 Nm) of torque and paired to an “eight-speed” CVT transmission with Sport mode. Fuel economy is EPA-estimated at 24/31/27 (city/highway/combined) for 2WD models and 24/30/26 for all-wheel-drive models.

In addition, the optional S-AWC electronically-controlled all-wheel-drive system comes with six drive modes. Models fitted with AWD also feature headlight washers and a front wiper de-icer.

That's some horrible company.

Infinity and Nissan are a shitshow. Let's hope they recover.

Jaguars are neither popular with the middle class, who can barely afford them, nor the upper and upper middle class, who think they aren't exclusive enough.

Fiat - your mechanic loves you but still hates these cars.

Maserati - their best car is almost a 14 year old design and while it still looks good, is horribly outdated. Their most affordable car is a laughing stock.
