Hey peeps. I just took over a lease on a 2020 330i M Sport which is Black Sapphire Metallic , and I see more defects than I want every time I wash it . Random swirls on the hood , and some small simple scratches nothing deep. I was told to let it go , but the OCD in me just can't LOL. Any recommendations on what products I can use to help restore my sanity :

Dual action orbital polisher, pad and light cutting compound......
You can also just get it detailed and they will be gone....

Swirls
I just bought a 2020 Black 330i M Sport and it had its share of swirls and rubs.
I used a DA Polisher, a correcting polish and then a finishing polish, with two different levels of pad cuts. These pics are before sealant. It took a solid day. Remove License Plates. Wash with Dawn to remove existing wax. Clay bar where needed. Dry. Machine Polish. Hand apply wax. I've only done this a few times before. So, I'm not a pro. I used Adam Polishes for their 15MM DA, pads, and polishes. |

Good job!
There is no magic to lite paint correction. Depends upon if you are a do yourselfer or prefer to pay someone to take care of your wheels. Get a good DA polisher, the right polish/compound for your level of correction needed (start on the mild side), do a little research on technique. And time...it will take some time and effort, plan on half a day or more if doing just polish/correction. Then you need to remove polish residue and then wax or sealant so plan a full day. Nothing a first timer can't do. |

Best polishing compounds for correction
Great posts and advice above. I worked at a high end body shop to help me through collage. Now I do it for extra cash and keep my three cars mint. I use Menzerna polishes - no dusting, lots of choices, and always great results. I have a Flex XC3401 VRG DA. It has a huge stroke length and is a direct drive so it makes quick work of paint issues. I use Lake Country pads and then follow my polishing up with Wolfgang Fusion wax.
I do agree with others here though, you can do a ton of damage to your paint if you are not careful. But...there are a ton of awesome videos out there to watch to give pointers. https://www.autogeek.net/fast-gloss-combo.html |
