FCA's Uconnect and Ford's MyFord Touch (yeah, the one they replaced) systems have been able to be updated via USB for many years now. In fact, Uconnect has had functioning OTA updates for years.

Hi,

First of all, my 2020 M34Xi has software version 03/2019.60 and both my Connected Drive App and Car say it is the most up to date, yet I know that there is a 07/2019 version and will be going into my dealer and getting that.

Having said that, I noticed that on the ConnectedDrive site you can get Release notes so I downloaded and attached Release Notes 19-03.

As I looked it over, it sure looks like these are for the software version in my car car -- that is 03/2019, which makes sense with the naming scheme that we all have surmised.

I wasn't sure if the region detection was using the country coded to the car or GPS/Nav info. Seems like it's using GPS based on your experience driving between regions.

Either way, the region locks can be overriden with coding for aSLA and associated behaviours.

Extended Traffic Jam Assistant/Assisted Driving Plus is proving a much harder nut to crack.

It's entirely possible that all models/all specs aren't *supposed* to have the same SW version.

If you car says it's up to date, why question it? What does BMW gain by somehow refusing to update customer software?

I think all the conspiracy talk and BMW bashing is out of line, unless someone has facts about how their versioning works.

Being a software engineer, it's unlikely point releases are specific to a model or spec. They go in order.

Having said that, it's possible BMW prevents upgrades to a version on a specific model/spec because the later release introduced a bug that negatively affects core functionality or a option in that model/spec.

Testing all the things all the time isn't easy..

So I went through all the settings on 07.2019.55 that I received as part of the recall for the backup camera and I noticed one new setting. It is under
Settings -> Display -> Instrument Panel -> and instead of saying "Navigation" and giving you the choice of Off, Map View or Route Preview, I think there are 2 additional options. One is turn by turn, which looks like it will display the next turn coming up. The other option which is definitely new is Assisted Driving View.

Assisted Driving View is the view in the instrument panel that looks like a Tesla with a view of your car driving down the road and it shows other cars, trucks and motorcycles on the screen as well.


(Note: This image is just the normal view of Assisted Driving View when Assisted Driving Mode is on, not the view from my car with Assisted Driving View and Assisted Driving Mode off)
Previously on 07.2019.30 I could only enable Assisted Driving View when Assisted Driving Mode is enabled. However, now with 07.2019.55 I can enable it all the time regardless of what mode I am driving in.

Unfortunately if your car did not come with 07.2019.xx from the factory it seems like Assisted Driving View is not enabled, even if you get the update from the dealer.

Thanks for posting this. Seems odd that this would be the case, bums me out that I paid for an option but have limited functionality compared to someone who has a later build date with the same option. I really hope BMW remedies this.

I am just about to collect my BMW 320d xDrive which was built March 2019.

It has driving assistant professional. Am I correct in thinking it will not have the traffic jam assistant and also the assisted driving view?

I'm a bit concerned as this is something I would really like.

You should have the Traffic Jam Assistant (aka Assisted Driving Plus), it is just Assisted Driving View (shown in the pic I posted above) that doesn't work except for cars built in July 2019 or later.

That's a real shame as I think that is awesome. However if it has blind spot protection then I'm comfortable going ahead. At the end of the day whilst driving down the motorway I should be looking up and in my mirrors, it could be a little distracting looking down. Such a cool feature though!!

Agree it seems off. The model, model year, and hardware are all the same, and it's being marketed as the same product, so BMW better speak up on this front and make it right.

I don't have the driving assistant plus package, so this doesn't impact me, but still find it odd.

Got my update as well as the camera. I had an issue with tire pressure monitor and that's now working as expected. Haven't had a chance to review the other changes.

What was wrong with the camera?

Nothing, camera referenced is the current recall on the backup camera. My digital card was not locking and unlocking the doors and now that's resolved as well.

Do we know when the next major update will be? Does it go in quarters, i.e. could we have 11.2019.xx which finally enables OTA and fixes everything and adds lots of extras as well?

I think a UK member here said BMW told them before the end of 2019, but we've been expecting OTA since March, so I'm not holding my breath.

Some members on the U.K. forum are seeing an update OTA. Not many but it is a start..

just got a base 3 series,happy to join the bmw family. I saw in pictuers other cars has option to choose to display music on their right side of the cockpit its that only a pro option or a software update . I wasn't able to select such a setting in my display options.

Click the button on the left turn stalk. It will let you cycle through display options in the live cockpit.
