I shipped my 2025 BMW M440i xDrive coupe back to the US from Germany and was finally able to get the M Performance Exhaust installed. I wanted to provide some notes on my experience in case it is useful to others. I went to the Parts Department at the local BMW dealership in Virginia. I told them that I wanted to order the M Performance Exhaust for my vehicle but did not provide them the part number because I wanted to confirm that they came up with the same part number that the BMW dealership in Germany had given me. They did indeed come back with 18-30-5-B46-400. Next, I asked for the price. They quoted me $2926, which is full MSRP. Luckily, I had done my research and found that this same dealership listed the MPE on their website for $2263.66. I asked them about the price on their website and they told me that that is their "online" price, but that they would honor it. So, after tax, I ended up paying right at $2,400 for the MPE.
Next, I went to the Service Department to schedule an appointment to have the MPE installed. The gentleman at the service desk told me that they would have to keep the car for about two days to install the exhaust. Luckily, I was prepared for this as well. I had the installation instructions with me which state the installation time is ~1 hour. I showed him the installation time and he said he would have to speak with the techs. He came back and told me that they should be able to do it in one day. He quoted me ~$400 for the installation. Yesterday I finally had the MPE installed. BMW had my car almost all day. When I picked up the vehicle, I checked under the back bumper to confirm that I could see "M Performance" written across the muffler. I'm sad to say that my initial impressions aren't great. I drove the car home in Sport Plus mode. I didn't notice a tremendous difference between the M Performance exhaust and my stock exhaust. Honestly, I almost felt that my stock exhaust was a little more aggressive. The MPE is maybe slightly more throaty. Admittedly, I haven't been able to open it up though because I'm still within the 1250-mile engine break-in period. However, I felt like my cold starts on previous BMWs with the MPE were much more noticeable. I previously installed the MPE on a 2015 M235i that I owned and I feel like the difference was instantly noticeable. However, I also remember the exhaust getting better with time. So maybe the MPE on my 2025 M440i will get better with time. In the end, I spent $2400 for the exhaust and $400 for the installation = $2800 total. I hope that the $2800 ends up being worth it. Now if I can just get my Apple Carplay to work!!! |

I paid almost identical to what you did back in May / June of this year for mine. Kinda funny you mentioned the install time. I was actually going through the same nonsense as you did with the install time. I put it in one of the MPE threads here. But, there was an SA at the local BMW dealer who was quoting me pretty much the same thing..needed my car 2-3 days to complete the job. It's a 2-3 person job. Lining up the tips and everything takes a long time to get right..blah blah blah. He didn't know what he was doing or talking about. After several back and forth with him, I tried to call him, he ghosted me for a week. Did not return any of my emails or calls. I went ahead and emailed the Service Manager and tagged my old SA in the emails along with the SA who ghosted me. My SA who I deal with for everything was on leave and had back surgery so he wasn't there or I know I wouldn't have had any issues. So long story short, I worked with my old SA, I dropped it off. Got a loaner, drove to work and by the time I got to my office downtown, the old exhaust was already off and the new one was about to go in. They were done in less than 1 hr..I think it was 45mins. Not sure why they need to play games. Just shoot it straight. Takes 1 hour. Very easy install. If I had the time and lift..I would have done it myself. As for the sound. I felt the same. Give it time. I have put on a little less than 700miles on my exhaust and its still getting broken in. The tone has def changed and a lot more burbles, pops and the tone even got crisper and louder. I would say, the tone is more pronounced! Just give it time and miles. You won't regret it..seriously! Don't hesitate if you have any other questions. Thanks!

I was on the fence with getting an MPE as well. I coded the valve to stay open on my stock exhaust and I'm pretty happy with that honestly. Cold starts are loud enough but not as deep and throaty as what I see on YouTube. I'm still toying around with the idea but if I never get one, I think I will be happy with what I have.

For my M340 as an added accessory dealer included $2775 for port installed, probably Mexico. I think sound would be great and I do not mind slight better sound than stock and actually would prefer in comfort to be close to stock and aggressive in sport.

I was on the fence about buying the MPE for my '21. I just had it installed and there is a big difference from stock with the valve open, especially in Sport+. Much deeper tone and louder but not excessive, IMO. Comfort mode is only slightly louder than stock which is another reason I went with the MPE/ valved exhaust.
