Spark Plugs/NGK or OEM? B58 vs B58TU1 Difference?
Hello, looking into changing plugs on my M340i, nearing 28k miles. I saw the differences between the normal B58 and B58TU1 plugs which many people don't realize. Majority of the time I run stock 91 tune, but once in a while bump up the boost with E40 mix for a tank or two. Would NGK 94201 plugs be a good choice or should I stick to OEM plugs? Also does anyone know the stock gap and what would be a happy medium for both performance and reliability? Heard .20-.22 can be a bit aggressive and cause a misfire or slight hiccups on a stock tune. I was thinking maybe .25? If anyone has any insight or experience with the two that would be a great help. Thanks!

I'm doing the same thing right now, my plugs just got delivered. My bud with gen 1 b58 just replaced his and gapped to .022 on e40 mix, runs fantastic. I will be doing a .022 gap with the ngk94201 - been running stock plugs at stock gap. I run MHD stage 2 and alternate between 91 and e40 map. Stock plugs have been okay so far, I'm at 23k miles. I'll let you know how it runs versus stock - I'm installing on the 30th as I'm out of town. |

Most of the A90 supra guys run NGK 94201's. Should be fine.

After looking at my plugs though, I would recommend changing them. A lot of buildup on the champion plugs, I just don't think the quality is anywhere close. Just my opinion, let me know what you do |

Just did an Oil Change, brakes all around, and swapped out to NGK 94201 gapped to .24 for my 30k service and I can definitely tell the difference. Didn't want to go to aggressive on the gap since I'm not always running my Stage 2 E50 Tune and mainly on 91 pump gas stock tune so .24 feels just fine. No shakiness at idle and runs so smooth. My stock plugs at 30k miles actually looked pretty good despite running more burbles and e85 throughout the miles. Highly recommend to anyone considering it, glad I pulled the plug and did it.

They've been great, idles smooth gapped to 0.24' still on stock tune majority of the time but when on Stage 2 91 or E40 map it pulls hard. Even noticed a difference stock, much more linear power delivery just felt much more smooth. No hiccups whatsoever highly recommend.

Hitting the mileage where I should look into changing my plugs. Checking out NGK, and their site saying the 96206 is the plug for the B58TU.

That’s the right one. That’s what I used and installed prior to my stage 2 MG Flasher OTS tune. Gap is stock (recommended by MG Flasher). No issues whatsoever. Spent $103.

Nice, thanks for the confirmation. I’m not tuned myself, just looking for a replacement for the OE Champion plugs.

I think I have one of the highest mileage M340i around, 103k. I did plugs at like 90-95k and honestly didn’t look too bad and car still started/drove/ran fine.

I’ve got a 2020 m340i. I need to get my spark plugs changed but the website says these won’t fit ? But I keep seeing others say they are running the same exact ones. Can anyone help??

The original B58TU1 spark plugs with the part number 12122455258 are the same as NGK SILZKGR8E8S (96206).
They´re also used in the G80 just with a different part number but the same supplier number. No need to adjust the gap with stock turbo.

Which ones should I go for? Or should I be looking at a different brand? I don’t want to mess with changing the gap so i’ll just run whatever it comes with. I’m at 42k miles and thinking of changing them myself. Thank you for all the help! |
