You can't adjust the temperature via iDrive 7's voice control, on the iDrive 8 you would be able to and the voice assistance is way more advance in accuracy.
That's not accurate. Voice command for temperature adjust works on ID7

Yea I just realized that only became available in a recent version of the iDrive 7 software revision (03/2021).

The earlier version of iDrive 7 would state: "Unfortunately, the climate system does not work with speech" if you made a climate control request.

What commands do you ask of your voice activation? https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1782551

Pretty sure it was available before that (03/2020). That was the highest build my M340i had and it recognized temperature/climate speech commands.

I can't say for sure, I remember when I first had a chance to experiment with it back in early 2019, the voice commands was pretty limited in its abilities and was more akin to senior version of iDrive 6, just with a new interface, which was even unofficially referred to as "iDrive 7 Lite."

Later on into matured into a more complete system, where Android Auto, Alexa, a native Google Maps widget, ect. was added.

That's the awesome thing about wireless software updates, much like a modern smart phone or tablet, there is always a chance for it to be easily revised, without need for a complete hardware change.

iDrive 7 is decent system and I wouldn't kick it out of bed but the fact that iDrive 8 supports a 5G connection, natural and nuance voice command, native YouTube and Amazon FireTV apps, excellent screen resolution, a larger RAM, processor and an all around evolved offering, pretty much future-proofs it for a longer period of firmware revisions.

However, at this juncture, either system is equally as palatable.

many people do not buy BMW because it has 5G or YouTube, services that will expire anyway and many people do not renew them due to exorbitant prices .... many buy the car for its sportiness, for the way you feel behind the wheel, comfort that you don't meet at Mercedes or Audi! As many reviewers have said on YouTube, BMW doesn't have many big screens (or at least didn't have them) just because it's a car you'd expect something completely different from, luxury combined with sportiness and safety ... BMW has something special in its DNA, you can't feel the same thing in another car, that's clear .

if you want tablets and Christmas tree in the car with 6G and the latest technologies you should focus on Audi or Mercedes - BMW should remain strictly a car in which it makes you a great pleasure to drive, that is to do 1000km and immediately after , say you want to drive another 1000km, you feel so good behind the wheel of a BMW!

... and the interior no longer attracts you in the same way to a pleasant driving ... without gear lever and with a big screen that will concern you more than the pleasure of driving ! Slowly, slowly, BMW is losing the DNA .

Another big step away from what I want in a car.
Another step in BMW ruining their reputation.

Does anyone know if the iDrive 8 would have the same RAM module or at least be compatible with aftermarket harnesses for adding an amp? My car has moved to a 2023 model and I have an iDrive 7 harness and amp at home that I wanted to install, back when it was supposed to be a 2022 model...

glad i didnt wait for the facelift i really dont like the front or rear think the original G20 M Sport is alot nicer looker cleaner everything just looks rectangular / triangular lines.

a few cosmetic mods on outside and early G20 is alot nicer Idrive 8 screen to big looks like need to take eyes off road too much to get info you need.

Shocking considering how they incorporate the Hoffmeister Kink so many places.
You mean like they're doing in the new X1? Clearly, BMW designers are aware of this and deliberately chose the sharp rectangular shape for the LCI 3er.

Because that's a different screen/option of iD8. If you look at the gauge cluster section, it's smaller than the full iDrive 8 option.

I'm guessing they'll be two separate options for the iDrive 8-like gauge clusters. The X1 probably has the plebeian, no-cost, standard option.

Dealers already taking deposits for allocation slots. I was told to expect to come in to place the order by end of the month. Lets see. Incidentally, 3 other folks were in there dropping deposits for the LCI during the 30-40 mins I was at my dealership.

I dont expect to see the car before the end of the year though especially if its a German build as I expect it to be.

Pretty sure the LCI 3 Series are going to be exclusively built in Mexico...at least that's from what I'm hearing. And deliveries are expected before October at my location per my dealer. I see you're in Canada though so not sure if that's why your info is different.

I’m being told the same. Mexico built, order in the next few weeks. Delivery sometime between August - September.

Yes in Canada the M340i came from Germany in 2022 and prior. The 330 came from Mexico. For '23, the Canadian market has options for Germany and Mexico for the M340 which should make the delivery team better I guess....but individual colors will still be coming from Germany.

In Canada some M340s prior to 2022 were manufactured in Mexico. These are marketed as M340 NA cars.

If ordering truly opens up mid-June, we should expect to see the BMWUSA Configurator go live any day now. Hype!

My guy just told me he was told order / first allocation by middle to end of July, production starting in August now… so roughly a month behind their original schedule.

Ewww the interior is awful. I already hated the "glued on Ipad" look of the interiors of most modern cars, now we have a giant 54 inch curved ipad, and no shifter to boot. Fingerprints for life!

Super happy I am taking delivery of my 2022 on Wednesday!
