Just got my VIN on the BMW garage site displaying vehicle is in queue for production! And guess what, it’s built in Mexico based on the first few numbers/letters in the vin. Just thought that might settle the debate for some m340 owners to be.

If they were being made in Germany, you would get access to the European options. I.e. carbon roof, noise insulated glass, M seats etc. I suspect they are all going to be made in Mexico, otherwise they will have a rather large production facility not doing very much.

Why? Pre-LCI were made in Germany and we didn't get access to any of those options.

Pre LCI were made in Mexico. The Mexico plant is very new, it fully opened in 2019. It's possible some earlier cars were assembled in Germany before it was online. Canada gets some cars from Germany.

https://www.bmwgroup-werke.com/san-luis-potosi/en.html

It was built specifically to assemble the 2 and 3 series. The X3 and X5 are assembled in Carolina.

People have this weird obsession with their car being assembled in Germany, it makes no difference.

The 330i was built in Mexico but the 2020 M340i (and I believe some of the 2021's were built in Germany). Yes, in Canada the M340i units were from Germany (all of the 2020MY)...mine was. Point being, even when the US and Canada had the German built M340i, there were none of the European options available (other than in Canada you could order Merino leather)...no sport seats, no carbon roof.

The removal of the notch in the lower line headlights "genericizes" it and makes it look like it's taking inspiration from Kia or something.. Too flat and boring.

Still not a bad looking car, but a downgrade I think... for me it removes some of the distinction and BMW character.

Did you actually read the link..? It would not make sense to offer those options originally if they were transitioning to Mexico which would not offer them. The carbon roof wasn't available in MY20 anywhere. The updates for the LCI are minor, there are no new options. Canada has always been it's own market.

You can get the carbon roof now in Canada on the M340i. Option 40c in the order guide.

Canada always gets better options, much smaller market. Cars are built in Germany.

Based on the Canadian ordering guide, ours is also from Mexico and Germany. The Frozen colours are not listed in the Mexico section.

Indeed. Also any Merino leather will cause your order to be built in Germany.

The carbon fiber roof was an option on the pre LCI M340i for the MY22 model year in Canada.I actually ordered my M340i with it but i decided to not take delivery of the car.I am going to wait for the G87.It arrived at my Toronto dealer about a month ago and was sold to another customer the next day.

Here are a few pics i took the day it arrived at the dealer. It still has the shipping blocks. The car is dirty so it is hard to get a detailed look of the carbon fiber roof contrast with Portimao Blue.

Looked great! Interesting swap from G20 to G87, any particular reason?

Definitely not a fan of the new curved screen. Looks like it was just thrown in there as an afterthought. The lack of a "gear knob" is mildly annoying too. Glad I got the 22 model after seeing this.

It's like at some point they realized the 2019-22 3-Series was a little too handsome and might impact sales of other models so they devised a plan to sprinkle some uglies on it.

I have a pre-LCI and I got to choose where mine was built in 2019. SLP was already in full swing at that time and many US-bound 3-Series were being produced there, but I asked to have mine built in Munich.

Just moved from a pre facelift m340 to an LCI one. Can’t fault the changes. the front end is infinitely better. the gear shifter has gone but not missed by me. The screens look a lot smarter and the only complaint is the damn comfort access, but I didn’t spec the car.
