DME Removal Process

I have been trying to find the thread that was created to remove the DME and send it out to Femto, but can find it. Also I dont have an option to leave my trunk unlocked or keep a battery charger on it. Can I re-connect the battery after the DME has been pulled and the lock the car? Also will this cause a slue of codes after the DME has been re-installed?

I would not recommend to have the battery attached while doing the removal or attach it before the DME is back.
Maybe rent a space for the time?

im not 100% sure on this, but its not worth the risk in my opinion. just take it to a mechanic and they will leave the car in a secure place for 6 days which is how it will take to send and get the DME back

It only takes 6 days in total for a femto unlock?

With express shipment, yes.

I asked because I read one guy plugged his battery back in after the DME was out. He mentioned he had a bunch of cel's after that were easily cleared. Definitley not something I wish to do. I will see what options I can find to house the car, I dont care to pay additional shops fees though.

I just took everything out of my trunk and left a pillow weighing it down so it wouldn’t swing open. I also tied rags to the hooks on the trunk and hood latch so they wouldn’t close. I recconected the battery a couple different times while the dme was out, but a lot of people recommend otherwise.

I didn’t reconnect my DME correctly so when I turned it on I had drivetrain malfunction error and my car wouldn’t start up. Fixed the issue and the codes cleared away fine

Same. At least one of my plugs wasn't tight. Fixed that and it started back up fine.

I spoke with a local BMW performance shop in my area that sends out DME's to Femto. They did say that you can reconnect the battery and lock the car without any issues.

here you go pal, something even better than a writeup.
Also, no need to mark the clips with dots. The clips are unique sizes.
Simple process really, I’ve had to do it twice. I did leave the battery disconnected, but my car stayed in my garage.

Very helpful video! My car is staying in my carport so id rather not have stuff blowing in it. I'm gonna lock it up before I pull the battery with the hood still open. I will pre- pull the rear seat releases so they are loose but not down. Pre fold passenger seat all the way down. Lock car, disconnect battery, close trunk, remove ecu, close hood. Reenter car via real key on drivers door, crawl back for trunk release, reconnect battery. . . Party with a tune and pray it never gets overriden!

Maybe sounds like a lot of prep/work but I'd much rather have everything sealed up properly for 2 weeks.

On the bright side I'm going to be in the Galapagos so I'll have 0 downtime while Femto gets my stuff sorted out.
