Aftermarket exhaust worth the money?

Hello everyone
I have a stock 24 m340x. Cane across a post for a akra exhaust system for $2k. Considering getting it.

I wont get it if its for the sound alone. Akrapovic website claims about 10hp and 10lb torque gain? don't know how reliable that is, and some weight savings. Any chance of getting better mpg on already super efficient engine with this exhaust?

Anyway, if its for sound alone, ill pass. but if it offers actual power gain and possibly better mpg, def will buy.
Any possibility this will void warranty or CEL?

I dont plan on tuning, dp etc as of now.

Not much power gains, just more sound with pops and bangs. You also pay extra because of the BMW Logo. I have been on the fence for a year, probably will go alibaba if I do. I cant justify the cost of the exhaust in the states.

the exhaust will not void the warranty or trigger any check engine light

Buy the exhaust based on sound and not power claims. The power claim will be negligible either way, and 1-2 HP difference between the different brands will not be noticeable

Depends on the exhaust you choose. Some will leave the resonator "Axleback" Those will not add a tone of volume. Our catback will give you a good amount fo sound as well as looks so yes, i think it's definitely worth it if you don't plan to do any other mods.

Kies did a dyno run with an AWE exhaust and saw some gains, so there is a small performance bump with an aftermarket setup. Any catback you choose will be around the same gains, and axlebacks will probably be a bit less.

Only you can decide if it is worth it. You can't look at it from a performance perspective. You need to think of it as a modding experience that enhances the sound. Anyway 2K for an exhaust to me is way too much money for some pipes. Check out the Alibaba exhaust. Its a copy of the valvetronics exhaust for about $1200. Much more doable IMO.

So this is more of a general statement right? I only ask because the M340 oem exhaust does not have resonators (as far as I know) and is, from the factory, dual straight piped from the cat/dp to muffler. Maybe things have changed though | Sorry if dumb question, appreciate the clarification

Stock M340i exhaust is a single out at the downpipe and then splits to 2 pipes and goes back to the muffler. My 2021 does not have resonators. Stock exhaust is bulky. You also get some weight savings. Not the stock exhaust pictured but how the pipes run.

If anyone is interested, I'll be selling some exhaust mods soon from my '23 M440i I am trading in for an M2. AA downpipe which I believe should always be first exhaust mod. Noticeable sound and throttle response even with stock muffler and no CEL. I also have some exhaust tips and three resonators I'll be posting in classified section once I get them off the car.

Just purchased the alibaba exhaust and the quality is really good. Hoping to install it this weekend. Comparing it similar exhaust in the states I saved on the low end $750 up to $1700 on the high end. Considering there are no significant gains and its more for a better sound, it didnt make sense to pay the premium. Check the Alibaba exhaust thread you wont be disppointed. I will post some detailed pics there after I install it.

I put an AWE touring non-resonated exhaust on mine and I honestly which I just saved the money and got a muffler delete instead. Our cars sound 90% the same with any aftermarket exhaust until you do the downpipe, which is when catbacks really matter. I'm not doing a downpipe any time soon so I would've just gotten a muffler delete. Also, regardless of what a dyno says, you're not gonna feel any magic power gain.

You would lose the valve ability with a muffler delete. Straight pipe will not sound the same as having a valved muffler system even when you have the valves open.

Went back and forth on this same question for a long time. Having an MPE exhaust installed on Monday, so we'll see. The MPE is pricey, but I tend to stay with OEM upgrades and wasn't really looking for HP/ TQ gains, just sound.

Nice. Post some sound clips when you can!

Honestly, MPE hands down!

I bought my MPE brand new and it has completely broken in and sounds even better than when I first started the car up when it got installed. The tone is super crisp and refine. Nothing out there sounds like it.

I love the valve functionality. I use it all the time. I leave early in the morning for work and it's quiet but when I want to have some fun, press the sport button and the exhaust becomes intoxicating! Seriously...can't beat it at all! I know a lot of people love their AWE and all of that. To me, AWE is way too loud and obnoxious.

BMW got it right with this MPE. I freakin love it!

Best of luck!

I agree MPE has been the best sounding exhaust system out there for me. And definitely not respected/Disliked by many because of cost, and it being an axle back. Many don’t want to spend this kind of money.

But I’m glad I purchased it. Zero regrets. When I heard the MPE in person it was like music vs an empty fart can noise or obnoxious sound like the AWE and Dinan. I heard both in person and I’m not a fan of either one.

MPE without a doubt !

I definitely don’t listen to advertising , they show you a small clip and think that’s enough to sell me? MPE didn’t have to show me anything, once I heard it at my local dealership I was hooked.

Just installed the Jiangxi Boska Trading Co.exhaust from Alibaba. Everything was packaged extremely well and had no damages. Shipped in 24hrs and received it 7 days later. Welds looked great and everything bolted up real easy. Took me about 4 hours and thats because of the florida heat breaks. I am running it with an AA catted downpipe and the sound is smooth/ loud with valves open and pretty quiet with them closed. There is some drone on the highway in high gear with them closed but bit less when there open. However, I have always had some drone with all of the bolt on exhausts I've owned over the years. All in all with the amount of money I saved and the quality, I could not be happier.
