Based upon previously leaked pictures of the 4 series and M3/4 I am confident that it will look close to this.

Definitely close but it should be a heck of a lot better looking

For those who wanted a 4 series coupe, but were turned for by the grille, this might be a good alternative.

You might very well be correct, but I am not seeing what you are seeing.

Do you not see the large protrusions of the camo panels or is it not comprehending how they're attached and what they're hiding?

Very likely a G42 M240i xDrive will replace our M340i xDrive in 2 years. I hope it's great!

The taillight ends flush with the trunk line. In other words, even if the taillight extended across the trunk line (as with F87 M2C and cargo elevator spy pic vehicle), the camo panel could not make this trim line.

By no means do I sense anything other than you and I having a cordial back-and-forth about what we see . . . I know what you are saying, but I do not agree with it at this stage.

I have no problem acknowledging you are correct - I am wrong - but based on the information currently available, I simply do not see the taillights extending across the trunk line.

OH LOOK! It's the same shitty bland interior we have in EVERY FREAKING BMW.
Will it also have the shitty digital dials which are counter intuitive, dark, bland and offer no customisation?

Tape a towel or sheet of legal paper to the trunk lid of your F87 covering the notch where the taillight is. Open trunk.

I understand what you are saying . . . if I did what you suggest using a piece of paper or camo panel it would simply cut off the inner third, or so, of the F87 taillight. There would not be crisp trunk and taillight lines with a natural 'gap.'

Instead, in the spy pics we are referencing, the trunk and taillight lines are crisp and separate, which is why I do not believe the taillight extends across/into the trunk line (as it does with the F87).

Tail light line? Like say the top edge of it passing through the edge of the camo panel?

Keep in mind, the only areas visible on the rear that don't have rigid camouflage attached are 20mm above/below the number plate;around exhaust trim. Everything else is obfuscated.

The leaked image from the lift is what's hiding behind.

1st Post in this thread states "G42 production will begin August 2021", keeping in mind production is exclusively in Mexico. Guess would be first deliveries October 2021 ?

Speaking of camo and cladding, this thing already looks mega wide for a base car; I can't tell if that's actual width or the cladding hiding some leaner proportions. Will the M2 get a wider track, front and rear, still? Or will it share track width and sheet metal with the base car?

We have come to the point where getting a new BMW model that has RWD is a pleasant surprise! Wow how the mighty have fallen.

It looks huge about the size of E92 - hopefully it looks even half as good as that car.

That is the next 2 Series coupe, someone in Mexico (I know) recently saw the bumper moulding at the factory and shared these blurry photos:

Look at the F87 taillight again. It is ONE piece that extends into the trunk and, as such, the trunk line (what opens and closes) is curved inward to accommodate the taillight. Still the 'gap' between the taillight and trunk is well defined.

What I am saying is this well-defined taillight-trunk line (gap) in the spy pics is preserved, HOWEVER, it is straight and somewhat vertical. There is no evidence that the taillight extends into the trunk (no inward curve to accommodate the taillight).

If you simply placed a piece of paper or camo plate over the inner third of the F87 it would not look like the spy pic. Further even with the camo plate the trunk is recessed inward/deep to the taillight in the spy pic.

I think, for now, we are going to have to agree to disagree. That said, I have no problem acknowledging I am wrong - you are correct - if/when the time comes. I simply do not see what you see based on the information provided to date.

My thoughts.

Await G80/82 release and track widths. Take note.

Await G42 release and take note of standard track widths.

Roughly order of magnitude the difference is the G87 fender flare.

Hopefully we would have 1.5-2 inches either side to add.

Seems like a lot of extra effort for BMW to put this extra camo on the trunk lid to hide a portion (roughly a third) of the taillights.

We'll see how this turns out. I'm hoping it's similar to the e92 where part of the taillight is on the trunk lid itself.
