Regardless of the color, if I see a c class, I think - is that a c43 instead of a c300? ok then it's quick. If I see a 3 series, is that an m340 instead of a 330? If I see a Ferrari is that a testarossa which I can spank or is it a 488 that would make me look like I was walking instead of driving? But I guess for the average non car enthusiast who wouldn't know the difference even if it did have its badges on, a sunset orange or portimao blue might "look faster". Although to be fair, my last car was an "iridium blue" Q50 RS400 which not a single person tried to race in the 3 years that I had it, and my current car is a dravit grey.

Question for all of you though. And this is a genuine question, I'm not being facetious -
What's the point of debadging? I used to think it was done because those who didn't have the higher spec car didn't want people to know they had the lower spec car (i.e. people who have a 330 don't want people to know it's not an m340) But obviously that's not the case if people with m340's are also debadging.

Does it happen at a particular intersection? If so, notify the police. If it randomly occurs everywhere, there is not much you can do. As to your possible remedy of removing your badging, or even downbadging it, I do like that approach. I am a big believer in sleeper cars anyway. |

One, it can "hide" how nice / expensive / fast your car is, which can curb unwanted attention (not get rid of it, but lessen it). Even people who don't know cars very well I think can tell the "M" badge means something. I do not have empirical data to back this up but I would guess the presence of the M badge increases aggressive driving near you (including what OP is talking about in this thread), as well as risk of vandalism or theft. I mean, consider that you thought debadging was a way of hiding that you got a "cheaper" car - this is what some owners want. A sleeper, a car that looks like it's not that expensive or fast. Two, it can be more aesthetically pleasing for some people. I think an M340i xDrive looks a lot cleaner and slicker with both badges removed. Three, it can definitely sometimes be what you are saying - someone with a 320, 328, 330 etc not wanting people to know that's the car they have and debadging it. Quote:

I think it's a color thing. People tried to race me in my bright red e90 328i... and now in my tuned 335 with a bunch of cosmetic mods (but the cars white) no one bothers me...

Leave the badge alone. Just ignore them. Simple as that. People see BMW's as being fast and they will try and race anything. If you buy a 1.8L Civic, they will still try to race you. Tint your windows and drive your car the way you want. |

I’ve had my M340i two weeks and am coming up to 1200 miles in and no one has tried to race me yet. Maybe we’re a bit more reserved when it comes to these things in the UK.

The last race I had was against a Maserati Ghibli Levante and I had no idea we were trying to race. I was just trying to merge into the left lane from a stoplight (my lane was running out and I needed to get over). I punched it and so did he (I guess he didn't like the fact that I was trying to jump the gun and change lanes). I beat him to the change, but part of me wonders if he let me come over. I'm pretty sure those Maserati's have a lot of power.

In any case, the m340i is technically quicker to 60 than any variation of the Ghibli and quicker than the Levante unless you're talking about the 590 hp Trofeo.

Our cars are about equal with the Ghibli SQ4 and faster than the regular one.

This is the most mind boggling thread. "I bought a M division car with 382hp and idk why people wanna test me" smh... Changing badges? what has this world come to.
