If what people are saying is true about the 217-220 hp, that's going to be a big let down if they haven't managed to pull some weight out.

I completely agree. The car should have turbocharged with ~250hp. Subaru has a turbo 4 and Toyota has a turbo 3 that would be perfect for these cars. Some people may say a turbo would ruin the experience, but so does going numbingly slow. Also, this car will receive a hybrid/electrified model by 2025 so that point is moot by Toyota's own objective and ever increasing emissions standards.

I know this could/would cannibalize 4 cylinder Supra sales, but not only should there not have been a 4 cylinder Supra, they shouldn't have been so similar that their demographics overlap. I don't see the need for 2 budget Caymans within Toyota's lineup and I believe is problematic in a dwindling sports car market.

I'm all for it staying NA and frankly have no interest in it if it goes to a turbo.

There are more than enough turbo 4's in the market. It's real simple, if you don't like the exceptional balance a car like this or the MX-5 offers, get something else.

I don't know how soon it will happen (certainly within the next year), but my next car will be either this (as long as it is still an NA) or the Miata.

If you are driving this car for straight line performance and are worried about how other cars outperform it in this manner, you are driving the wrong car

Let's be honest, there are many... MANY FR-S drivers who don't get it for this reason attested by the fact that many of them have tried to streetlight race me numerous times despite me having a couple hundred horsepower and torque on them. I've met many nice people with highly modified FR-S's that have NEVER seen a track. These are most likely hard parkers who find the sticker price, car culture stature, and styling appealing. These are the people who will be irked that the Corolla hatchback will beat them at the stoplight... because that's all they mostly know.

I bet the Corolla handles though. This isn’t going to be another V6 Camry. It won’t necessarily dance like an 86, but it will be capable around corners if I had to guess.

Making the BRZ a turbo would basically push it near base STi price and add a few hundred pounds of weight, not only through all the supporting hardware for the turbo, but a strong transmission, differential, larger brakes, etc, etc.

That kind of misses the point of the BRZ.

I think too many people are locked into the idea of a single engine option because the current twins only have a single engine option.

If you offer both an affordable NA model and more expensive turbo model then this isn't an issue.

That’s what I hope they do! NA for fun at low speeds purists. Turbo for those looking to have fun at speed too. And manual in both please.

I am someone that hopes they keep it NA. A small bump in power is perfectly fine, what they really need to fix is the power delivery. Low HP NA cars are fine if you can get a linear pull to red line. The torque dip in the twins was pretty bad.

Again, they would essentially be two different vehicles for all the changes that would be needed. There just isn't a business case for it.

The first-gen can fit 18x9.5 with 255/35s on stock fenders (this is what I ran on mine), with just the right offset you can squeeze 18x10 and 265/35s.

Saying "again" does not legitimize your point. I read it and fully understood, I just disagree.

The customer is always right, and if the lack of power is deterring paying customers then it should be considered. I can't say I have the market research on the potential turbo 86, but neither do you to say there isn't a business case.
