JB4 or Race Chip GTS Black

Besides the price difference, which plug in tune is better. Currently running a JB+, looking for an increase in power. I was going to make the switch after reading great reviews about the Race Chip, and seeing how easy it is to install and use, but i recently read that the JB4 can add up to 100 crank HP, which is substantial, but the JB4 involves a little more work and knowledge to install and use. Any opinions?

We offer both options, cant go wrong with either one.

In my opinion, the JB4 is the better value purchase. Its got a lot more feautures and safety failsafes

The RaceChip is similar to BMS Stage1, not much of an upgrade over JB+ but maybe a small upgrade.

If you got the JB+ new BMS has a nice program where they let you trade it in for 100% credit towards a JB4 from them. Not sure on exact details you'd have to check with them.

If I was limited to only those two choices - I would go with the JB4 without a doubt

In a piggyback? None

In other words even if you were to add the other major players in the piggyback space such as Active Autowerke, Dinan etc...(assuming they even have a box for the B58TU) to your list, if you are limiting your choices to boxes - I would still put JB4 on the top of the list and I would add the EWG connector to it.

Do you know if JB4 can be run with catted DP?

Sure the JB4 supports downpipes on the tuning end but you can't easily remove them and face a possible warranty void if the dealer notices them.

Ok, just confirming because I’ve heard some say it’s not recommended to run DPs with JB4.

Cut and paste from another thread - which quoted another thread...

Fuel-It! from the forum, who often posts regarding JB4 and other Burger products, is a partner of BMS and his products are sold by BMS (I would therefore consider him an expert when it comes to JB+, JB4). That said he recently shared the following regarding BMS Piggybacks & DPs "BMS doesn't suggest DP for any B58 model, the factory DP flows pretty well and if you replace it you'll have odor and warranty problems. Gains with DP maybe 15whp."

Perhaps the recommendation is based on warranty - but if you're going JB4 (or any modification tune flash etc) your warranty is already technically in peril so that negates the concern with the DP . But that said BMW needs to prove things for warranty denial, there is no proactive voiding of warranty, after 4+ years now with the B58 boxes like JB4 and responsible flash tunes simply are not creating problems for the B58.

I for one wouldn't worry about warranty with a box, a flash or a DP...but that's just me

We run DPs on all our (race) cars, and all are JB4 tuned. The tuning isn't an issue but be aware it's illegal in the USA to install DPs. With the B58 gains are not that dramatic as well.

What type of gains are you seeing with JB4 and DP on B58? Are you running catted or non-cat DPs?

According to the Fuel-IT published dyno you can find here:
https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1692979

JB4
91 octane
downpipe (don't know catted or not but it wouldn't matter much either way)
BMS intake

Map 1: +28 wheel horsepower vs stock wheel horsepower*
Map 2: +35 wheel horsepower vs stock wheel horsepower*

JB4
EWG connector
E85 added to 91 to achieve E42
downpipe (don't know catted or not but it wouldn't matter much either way)
BMS intake
Fuel-IT flex fuel sensor
IAT Spoofing to bump timing a couple degrees

+90 wheel horsepower vs stock wheel horsepower

*Note: comments are they were "taking it easy" because of 91 fuel and +50 is achievable under similar circumstances (and I agree with this based on what I've seen on the supra forums on 93)

I agree but seems like OP has their mind set on a piggyback - so I guess at this point it's a matter of choosing the best box
