Radio no longer turns off when door opened

:

Strange one. Never had to worry about music being heard when I turn off / open the door. Just keeps on playing. Have to physically press the volume button.

Is there a setting for this?

There is a setting in the idrive where you can turn off the vehicle (including the radio) when you open the drivers door.

Via iDrive:

"CAR"
"Settings"
"Doors/Access"
"Turn off vehicle after opening door"

Mine does this randomly and turns off once the car is locked and I walked away. Totally random too.

Random for me also, depending on whether the car likes the music or not it seems!

Mine always turns off as soon as engine shut off and door is opened without failure.

My experience is that if I switch off the car, then open the door, the audio will shut off. But if I forget to switch off the car before opening the door (sometimes when engine is already off with the auto start-stop, I forget the car is still on), then the audio will keep blaring. I can either press the volume button for a couple of seconds or quickly get out and lock the car!

Is there something or someone on your passenger seat? When I do, it won’t turn off.

I think it's just buggy. I have even set the heated seats to come on below a certain temp but it's hit and miss. Some weeks it turns off. Some weeks it won't. The settings are correct. I noticed an update was available in the iDrive so I might try that.

In some cases for me...it has to do if there is a passenger in the car or not. If I get out first the dash stays lit. Once they open their door it goes out. Has happened several times like this. Also kids in the back late getting out does the same thing at times. almost like the car says wait...still people in the car.

I randomly have this same issue as well. So far I haven't been able to isolate what exactly is causing the issue. I don't ever have anyone in the passenger seat, so my issue doesn't have anything to do with that.

Agreed - I noticed this over the weekend. I got out of the car first and the music stayed on, then my girlfriend opened the passenger door to get out and the music stopped.

Think I solved this, I pluged the passenger seat belt in to stop the seat belt clip rattling against the interior plastic of the door panel, once I unclipped it the problem was solved .. opening the driver door, the music and dash display switches off..

Makes sense, seat belt clipped in, leaves the radio for your 'passenger'.

For those having this "random" issue I wonder if it depends on your drive mode when it works as expected vs the drive mode when it doesn't.

The reason is I recently discovered that if you are in, say, Adaptive mode: if you open the door WHILE the engine is still running the engine will shut off. However, if you unlock the door first WHILE the engine is running, the engine stays on.

I'm pretty sure this applies to the other Drive modes that trigger the automatic start/stop such as Comfort or ECO PRO.

I haven't paid close enough attention as to whether the sound system shuts down after opening the door without unlocking first while the engine is running.

These are just some quirks with the car. Not saying this is the issue but this could help in further isolating.

That said I don't have this issue. I always turn off my engine first before opening the door to exit and iDrive shuts down all the time without fail. My drive mode is Adaptive 99% of the time.
