Right, i'm with you on this. I think normal people think it is ridiculous but for me a car loan is just a collateralized loan at low rates. At low enough rates, you want to borrow as much as you can, invest it in other things and still be able to get your car while simultaneously using that money for other things at low risk. The problem people get into is they approach it as just lower monthly payments and just spend more elsewhere, but well those people are dumb I tend to keep my cars 4 years, but still take 5 year loans out if I can get 2-3%. Hell I'd take a 7 year loan on a car I'm selling in 3-4 years. Why sacrifice liquidity if someone is dumb enough to loan you money at 1-2% for 7 years..... or you can exchange it for money up front which is how it usually is right... 7 year loan at 0-2% OR an upfront rebate. you are paying for those loan rates one way or the other, whichever one makes the best economic sense is the one you should take. |

Just finished my own manufactured personal hell choosing between M340i vs. M2C vs. M3 this week: Current 2016 340i 6MT lease is up at end of year.
Originally, I was hoping for G20 M340 6MT but then those dreams crashed hard in October -- Strike 1. So, I put my name on the waitlist for M2C Euro Delivery. But, the wife gave me a hard time about a 2 door with two kids (13 and 7), plus 45% residuals on M2C (vs. 54% on M3) made it unleaseable --- Strike 2. With M3 EOP in August, there's no more ED available (I've done 3 EDs and wouldn't ever get a new one without) plus dealers are not discounting the 6MTs they have since they won't be getting new cars for at least a year (likely no MT on those either) -- Strike 3...or so I thought. I found a Swapalease for a 6-month-old 2018 F80 M3 at a great price and am saved for now! |

I have a 15 335 Xdrive for the winter and a E92 M3. It's nice to have both, since you have the winter car in the stable, get the M. I'm not sure how happy you would be with 2 x 3 series VS the M. The M is just a different experience the 3 series doesn't deliver! Buy the ///M

I made the moved from F30 335i with MPPK & performance exhaust to 18 F80 CP with MT really happy with the car performance. by the time you did all the upgrade the cost is almost the same as M3.

Looking at past used BMW prices, the M3s are better value if you intend to keep your car long term. In 10 years time, the 2019 G20 M340i will be worth a lot less than the 2018 F80 M3.
BMW will always tweak the sub-model branding to whatever over the years. But the M3 will always be an M3. |

My local BMW dealer, from whom I have purchased my last 4 cars, has two left-over 2018 M2 with exec package and TC tranny MSRP $65K. I was offered one of these for $57K if I finance. After looking at the specs for the M340i and comparing to the 2018 M2, this looks like a bad idea. The M340i has more HP, better suspension, same brakes, more modern interior and probably close to the same price. I'm thinking that the left over 2018 M2's are going to be hard to move with an informed buyer (and what M2 buyer isn't?) and an attractive price needs to be $55K, or less, before incentives. Am I wrong?
