2019 BMW 330i loaner quick impressions

Boy was I wrong about the G20. It is light years ahead of the F30 in terms of refinement. Better steering, better quality interior, quieter and no rattles.

That being said, I'm still not completely sold on the exterior and I hate the electric parking brake, but that is small stuff.

I kind of regret not waiting for the M340i but I still love my ZHP. However when my lease is up I might just switch over.

And this is only a base model 330i!!! I'd post a pic but the site is not working for uploads. I'll try again later.

I mostly agreed after driving the G20 for a few times, except the door lock switch and gear knob "P" location, they are placed in an inconvenient position. Other than that, it is a much better car than F30.

The G20 definitely does a lot of things differently than the F30. After driving my loaner for a few days, I'm already sick of the electric parking brake. I'm also a little annoyed with the self locking and unlocking especially when it's in my garage. Pretty sure I can turn that off however. Just haven't had the time.

The ambient lighting rocks!

There is an option to unlock when you walk close to the car and lock when you walk away. Try that instead.

They should leave the switches on each door as well as the vent. And a physical sync button for the AC rather than buried in an an i drive menu. Can you program this to a number button?

Because it takes a lot less time to pull a handbrake than set and unset the electric parking brake.

Minor annoyances of course.

Also gotta remember, OP drives a 340i with a stick, he's use to a manual handbrake every time he parks and gets in to drive. A manual handbrake just feels more assuring and in a sense engaging than a electronic parking brake which can sometimes be hard to get used to.

Yes, but how many people with automatic transmissions use their hand/e-brakes? I was just saying as a manual transmission owner myself, we use a handbrake numerous times a day, so changing to an e-brake can feel weird.

Yeah I stopped using my handbrake awhile ago. Just easier to shift out if park and go without also releasing hand brake.

I can vouch for that having changed from a manual M235 to an M340. Still not quite used to it, and am nearly 6 months into ownership. But I drove manuals for 30 years before the M340, so a handbrake just feels more reassuring.

I haven't owned a stick shift car since August 2016 but I still use the e-brake. I have become accustom to it now but still preferred the old hand brake.

Using the parking brake relieves stress on the automatic transmission parking pawl. I’ve been using the parking brake with an automatic transmission for years. An electronic parking brake is kind of like removing the oil dipstick. It solves a problem no one had. Now that we have the electronic shifter the only way to get the car into neutral should there be a problem is to get under the car and release some do-hickie on the transmission housing.

Correction. My car is an auto but through many years of driving, I've gotten used to pulling a handbrake. It just brings me comfort.

Additionally, if there’s a brake system failure while driving a hand brake allows one to use the parking brake to stop the car.
