Production Begins

Hello All!

This is my first time on this forum and I was wondering what was the time frame when you all saw “production begins”. It has been like this for a little over a week and the waiting game is killing me lol. How long was everyone on this phase and how long was it for everyone after that? So excited for my first BMW and for it to be an M340i

Do you have the 800 number? I think it may get updated better than the website, but don’t hold me to that.

Order tracking thread. This ought to keep you busy. https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...22341&page=282

Also one more question for everyone. Is the M Performance Exhaust worth the extra $2500+? When I was making the order for my M340, my salesperson said it was not available to order at that time. I was considering adding it after it arrives. Just want to know opinions on the MPE

I think it’s worth it. Especially on the neutered mild hybrid exhaust. It can be a port installed option, so you should check into having it done there.

Now that you are in Production Begins you should be able to use the "F12" process to get your assembly date. Mine went to Production Begins a week prior to the Exterior Body stage but that was a few years ago for a German Individual build so SLP may be different.

Salesmen and dealerships don’t always know what they are talking about, they don’t always tell the truth, and if they don’t know how to get something done they may just take the easy way and tell you it can’t be done. Do a little reading and investigating here on the forum and see what others have experienced getting the MPE. I’m pretty sure if you can get it installed at the port you can pay for just the option and labor will not be extra. If you have to order it separately and have the dealer install it after the car arrives at the dealership they will charge labor to do it. If the dealer is uncooperative, once you find out what port is going to receive your car you MAY be able to contact them directly to find out if the MPE is available and if they can install it before the car goes to the dealer. Also, and this is for sure, if you happen to be leasing the car port installed options are included on the Monroney label and can be residualized as part of the lease MSRP.

He is in Production Begins so he won't be able to make any changes that would effect the build options/Monroney.

Edit: The above does not apply to port installed items.

Appreciate it man! I’ll contact my salesperson to add the MPE.

That wait was a killer for me too. No advice on that other than try to have more patience than I did.
The MPE is a brilliant exhaust and I highly recommend it.

My car entered “Production begins” on 11/7 and didn’t change to “Exterior body assembly begins” until 11/24, so about two weeks. Received my car on 1/23 for reference.

Are you 100% certain of that? I have a pretty strong recollection of folks getting port installed options added after the factory production had begun, but I won’t swear to it. I do know the Monroney label is created and applied at the port facility.

No I'm not as I may have misunderstood/read into what you were describing. I know for sure you can't make any changes that are tied to the VIN, if something is on the Monroney but not the VIN they I could see how it can be added.

So what happens is when your car arrives it gets prepped to go to the dealer at the port processing facility. BMW has five Vehicle Distribution Centers where vehicles are unloaded off of the ships. It is basically like a mini factory and they have very broad capabilities. It is not uncommon for cars to be damaged during shipping and the VDC has the ability to make factory level repairs and paint. You would never know anything happened. They can do all kinds of things to your car.

Yeah, they add MPEs and MPPSKs all the time, but those don’t show up when you do a VIN inquiry. The F30 ZHP pkg was 100% port installed and when you do a VIN check on a ZHP nothing shows up. But, those things are included on the Monroney and as I mentioned can be residualized on a lease. If they are installed by the dealer they can’t be.

Congrat’s on the order

MPE is basically just a muffler, adds no HP gains and just enhances the sound.

How aggressive do you want your vehicles exhaust note to sound?

I ordered MPE which was installed at the port, so you still have time to add it. This basically saved me the additional cost of installation which is a plus.

By itself MPE makes the car sound good, but for me, when I added my AA Downpipe the sound became a bit obnoxious, so consider what your goals and future mods might be. I think there are nicer sounding exhausts especially ones that I think are better complimented with DP and/or tune.

Factory exhaust is pretty tame. I’d get the MPE.

Hey guys another quick question. Has anyone noticed the picture of the car on the my garage website change during assembly? I did not make any changes at all with the order and out of no where the picture changed. I hope they didn’t change the rims to this specific kind lol
