I LOVE BMW and the NEW GRILL... MAKES THE F80/82 look old and geriatric. :happy anim:
The render wasn't that far off dude.
I found the render to be much better looking!

The rest of the car is interesting but the grille is tacky and over the top. I sincerely hope the production car has a smaller and more angled grille. And the stuff inside the grille...ugh just hideous. Tacky is an understatement.
It will not be a smaller grill. You guys have been in denial for months despite spy shots telling you this was coming, and now that it's here you're still having a problem shrugging off that denial. You're going to be in for a long model cycle.
I don't think it's denial, nobody was expecting the grille to be the same size as today's. I think people expected a design pattern that blends well with the car and the enlarged grille trend. So when some see this concept 4 pictures, they don't feel they got the job done. At least I feel that way, that they did a bad overall design job.
They should've been. After all, spy pic after spy pic showed how large the grills were relative to the rest of the bumper/surrounding area. People just chose not to believe it. The front end turned out to be more or less what I was expecting. I've always liked the side profile silhouette, so I have no issues with that. I still feel indifferent about the rear, but it'll grow on me I'm sure.

That's the right mix of evolution and revolution, not bad.
Curios how different the i4 will look like.

Very bold - it is a concept after all. I do worry it may be too grille-centric and not capture the bmw design language that makes it a bmw (e.g., hoffmeister kink - although they do have a mini/modified one even here)

FYI, I made a comparison of BMW recent "series" concept and the actual production car:

What is going on at BMW?
I can’t help but feel this too. I’m not saying that BMW is failing and this design is their doom and gloom. But, it definitely seems like there is a LOT of mixed opinion and decision making up at the executive level for how they should move the brand forward.

Some of these recent decisions are almost as if they can’t come to an agreement in the board room, so they throw a blind dart and hope it hits some sort of target.

Looks like its going to be a long model cycle regardless of people's denial...

Still thicker headlights and a very slightly smaller grille, seeing the spyshots. Looks to me as close to production as the 8er Concept was, i.e. not super super close.

Horrid. Literally bmw has hired the worst designers in their history, and the Q family has evidently all lost their vision. How/what/why?

This looks nothing like a bmw, and thats bad, and the grills look nothing like the concept CSL they were supposed to follow.

Another epic fail, like the 8er and 7er. Way to go bmw with losing more loyal customers.

P car here we come

Common theme to note here is grill size never drastically changed in any of the production models here. This grill is definitely the real deal

What color/spec on the E90, I may be able to help you out!

This is more or less showing us the likely production grill. I feel like the renders cater a tad more toward the production grill (... with regards to shape) than the concept car's grill, but any hopes of significant shrinkage should be jettisoned. Accept this new way forward.

The thing that changes the most is the HOOD LINE.

Imagine how much better the Z4 or previous 4 series (and all F series BMWs) would have looked with the hood line not in the middle of nowhere.

Also what a beautiful Hoftmeister Kink had the current 4 series. Simply perfect. Like he previous 6 series one.

The M cars with their aggressive styling will pull it off even better, IMO.

Well yes.. of course... designing a render based that looks more like the concept ISNT the intention here.

The render is put out there as an idea of what the production car will be.

PS. I am not hooping for or expecting anything.. the 4er is not on my shopping list and hasn't been since it's inception. if I needed a rebadged 6er I would just get a 6er..

As far as the size of the grille... I am sure it will be smaller in production than in any renders.. simply based on recent trend.
I don't expect it to shrink to 2000s sizing at all... and it doesn't look horrible to me.. just different.....

I DO find it interesting that the 3er grille and 4er grille appear to be so different....

I only just noticed they fitted a transparant EU size license plate for this model.

That’s clever.
