14% tax on 330e for 20/21

I have just received my tax code notice for 2020/2021 and my 330e M Sport is taxed at 14% not the 12% I was expecting.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I have queried mine. Before I changed my Outlander PHEV for an F30 330e (until the G20 gets delivered). The tax code change was correct at 14%, however I just switched the car on the online tax form and the next code created for next year shows that the 330e is 16%?

edit got the figures wrong. both should be 14% but the F30 has been calculated at 16% which I think is a mistake. I am hoping the G20 as mine will be after 6th April will be 10% rising to 12% in the 3rd year.

Which 330e do you have. An F30 330e will be 14% I think as official electric range is 17miles.

Look at the table here

A G20 330e registered 26th September 2019, I wonder if HMRC has it down as the F30 . Difficult to tell on the HMRC app, it shows the right date for registration and CO2 figure of 35

I've got a G20 330e M sport, registered December 2019. The WLT and C02 figures place it in the 12% bracket for 20/21. Checked the HMRC site and they have my BIK as the same about for this year and next, so hoping like yours it's something they will update in the new tax year, my tax code for this tax year and next is also the same, might be worth a call to chase up.

I believe technically the BiK rates for 2020/2021 are not yet finalised until after the budget and Finance Bill is approved by Parliament. Therefore HMRC cannot show 12% for G20 330e yet.

Possibly, I guess we wait and see.

Noticed on another forum an i3 owner also being put on 14% instead of 2% , he ended up calling HMRC who then corrected it.

He wasn't asking you what it is in California. He was saying "if you think 9% is high, the 320d is 30%".

9% is high, is that on the sales price?

The 12 to 30% that we pay in the UK is based on the list price but then we pay a percentage of that based on our rate of income tax so works out pretty much the same. The % we pay is only for company cars and is paid all the time we have the car.

HMRC said they don't have the tax tables for 20/21 in the system yet, the 330e is still showing as 16% and to call back after the 6th April and query it.

Interesting when your own tax department doesn't have tax tables.

Either that or she couldn't be arsed to look for it but she was telling me my calculations were wrong.?

They can’t have the tax tables yet because the budget was only today when the rates are formally confirmed and then voted on in Parliament.

Tables were published in July last year, but becuase of Brexit and the election, we had to wait till today to get them confirmed by the govt, they should have been confirmed in the Nov budget. The finance bill will put these figs into Law.

Indeed. I meant to say that HMRC won’t use tables until they are confirmed. As you say they did not have confirmed tables.

Sale price, in California we pay a fee based on car value with annual vehicle registration. Other states have a different process to collect tax on car value

I rang HMRC a while back and got them to overtype the number they had (which was 16% I think) with the 12% figure. When I first got the car I changed it online but noticed there was no way of telling them about all electric range. Anyway after a bit of time on hold they said that was OK (to manually change to the figure I said) and they would then wait for P11D before changing it to another figure. Hopefully it's all sorted/formalised before the P11D gets sent through.

isn't this only for cars registered after the 6th April 2020, cars register before this date will remain at current levels?

Mine was due for delivery on 7th April but now delayed due to COVID-19 lockdown which is totally understandable.

I think it's

14% (down from 16%) for cars registered before April 2020

12% for cars registered after April 2020
