Since it was a factory order, I assume that you didn’t lease it.
Personally, if I were in your shoes and I wanted to upgrade, I’d keep the current tires and rims, and use them in the winter. When they wear out, I’d put either winter tires or the new style all-weather tires on them. I’d buy a second set of rims, and put whatever tires I like on them for summer months. If you did lease it, then I’d take the current tires off the rims, store them, put on whatever rubber I like for winter months. I’d do as above with a second set of rims and tires. Then, when it comes time to turn in the car, I’d throw the OEM tires back on the original rims and turn it in. I see that the standard sizes for the upgrade are: Front: 19x8.0, 225/40 R19 Rear: 19x8.5, 255/35 R19 I leave it to others to discuss the merits of this setup from a handling POV. However, you won’t be able to rotate tires, and the wider tires will be more expensive and may wear faster.

I'm trying to find out definitively what my OEM 791M wheel specs are. I can see 225/40 all around. does this mean 19x8 all around?

You cannot go 255 square on stock wheels. Best you can do is 235/40. The Apex SM10 are 9 inch / ET28. They fit perfectly. The apex website has a full fitment guide for every combo you could think of.

I bought my '21 M340i rwd used and did not know the 792m wheels came square. I thought they were all staggered setups like my previous 435i. I've only had the car for a year now but really want to replace the rear wheels with 8.5" size. Found them on ebay for about $500 each. But then I would still need tires. Seems kind of expensive to me.

So I just replaced my stock 225/40/19 square setup with 235/40/19. I just created a post in the tire section of the forum if you want to check them out. I couldn’t be happier with the look and ride quality from getting ride of the RFTs. Looks much better as well.

I did consider a summer setup + keeping all seasons for winter, but I don't really want to swap tires twice a year, and summer tires are also more expensive and apparently wear faster. I decided instead to just buy a staggered set of wheels (got a really good deal on a brand new OEM set for ~800) and plan to put on P4S all-season tires once summer rolls around. Quote:
I also considered what you said but then found an entire set of brand new staggered 793m gold wheels for 800 dollars. The appearance may not be for everyone but they were extremely cheap at the time (i think the cost has increased significantly since then), even the rep at the parts department was confused about the price However you can get an entire set with tires (unfortunately pirelli RFTs) for ~2.2k: https://www.getbmwparts.com/oem-part...et-36115a2aed4. If you can probably sell your current set for 500-1000 it may not be terribly expensive, basically swapping to a brand new set of wheels for ~1k-1.5k. Although this is assuming: 1. You are ok with the gold wheels 2. You are ok with RFTs and summer tires 3. You are willing to deal with the hassle of selling your old wheel/tires |
