I think you have to read the whole sentence together with the part about the new mixed tire setup to really understand what they mean:

Quote:
New: Mixed tires of dimensions 275 / 35-19 at the front and 285 / 30-20 at the rear. In addition six instead of four-piston fixed caliper brakes on the front axle with carbon-ceramic discs, in case of doubt both as options. In general: This would be the preferred choice.
The way I understand it they say that both the 19" front/20" rear wheels and CCB are options and that this combo is the preferred choice.

The sentence isn't conclusive on whether the std brakes are 6-pot or not. But I lean towards the 6-pot theory since they start the sentence with "six instead of four", but I could be mistaken...

This is really making me contemplate my next 911 purchase. With two kids now, the M3 may just fit my lifestyle a little bit more. Tough decision. One thing is for sure, this will be the leap forward for the M3 from the F80 to the G80 the way the M5 leapt forward from the F10 to F90. I don't see anyone being disappointed in their acquisition of one of these bad boys.

Yes, the backseats of 991.2 are smaller than even a 997. Your children would probably need to be less than 4 ft tall, so probably 7 yrs old or less is fine, anything over that would be a stretch. You would also need a narrow booster seat. (nieces and nephews)

So more OEM camber than previous gen, and a better tire. Hopefully the improved handling goes beyond these bits.

These 6-piston calipers look as standard -the same setup as in the M5:

German can be weird even if you grew up with it. ^^

German sentence structure is a bit strange sometimes...

The pictures of the partly camouflaged G80 M3s show that the std steel brakes has 6-pot front calipers.

I’ve sat in the back of 991.2 and, at 5’8”, it was ok for a short period of time. I couldn’t do a road trip, but the car would be fine for picking kids up from school.

Had an M4 CS in my rear view mirror today... such an agressive front. Tough act to follow... I really can’t wait to see the G82 on the road. The pictures look horrible... but I’m still hoping it somehow works in the flesh.

Wow, I always thought the 991 seats were larger than the 997. I have to go look again lol. My kids are 3 and 8. My daughter sits fine in the back still. I'd say she still has another year or so. My son sits in a Diono Radian XT seat and it fits perfect. There are photos of guys that fit 3 of them in the back of their F80's maximizing the F80 utilization as a family car. It's an excellent seat.

I have recaros in all of the other cars since their build quality is so good but I'll say the Diono edges them out in all areas, especially form factor and padding. Also, it's the only FAA approved seat, that should say something, although one prays they'll never have to be in that situation.

I hope that helps anyone that is contemplating a 911. It really is a usable daily sports car. It's never let me down on room. Between the "frunk" and rear compartment behind the seats I've been able to do an awful lot. Without the kids, my wife and I have gone on week long road trips with tons of luggage.

That said, the next decision will be a difficult one. 991.2 Turbos and GTS' have my eye and they're still under warranty with almost flat depreciation at this point. Still, there is something to be said about a brand new car.

Maybe this should be in the "Perhaps anyone disgusted with the G8x" thread, but yes. It's a great all-around, versatile car. You could even use it as a daily driver if need be, however the point I was trying to make is that the back seats are not ideal for longer trips with bigger kids if this is a daily (mine is a PDK 4S with 14-way power sport seats, so your situation may be different).

I can't really speak to the kids part since ours are grown and it wasn't a factor in buying for us, only what I experienced. Nieces, nephews and friends come on occasion and the car seats weren't the narrow type, so that in addition to my long legs wasn't ideal for longer rides. My friends also had difficulty getting in and out and sitting so not the most comfortable ride to dinner.

Storage-wise, the car is surprising. I've fit 2 - 24 pack cases of water and 7 or 8 plastic shopping bags in the frunk. In addition, folding the rear seats back can give room for small luggage or what have you.

I'm not going to bore everyone else with the details, just research well and also factor in the added costs of maintenance and gremlins . I also recommend it has the front axle lift system because it will scrape with a full load. You will enjoy it for sure.

The number of pistons tells you very little about the actual performance of the braking system. The M2 Competition 2NH brakes weigh so much more than the blue brakes and stop you from using 18" wheels. They might have more thermal mass, but they are still not even close to a good aftermarket kit like AP. There are more complaints about those brakes in M2C reviews than there ever were with the standard blue brakes.

Bigger calipers hopefully means bigger pads that can handle more heat though.
I crumbled multiple sets of pads for the F series 4 piston calipers.

Could be maybe you had the wrong pads. I’ve used Pagid RS29 and PFC08, and while the Pagids were at their limit, the PFCs are working just fine. I’m not a track newbie.

I would like the stock blue brakes even more if they had better dust seals on the pistons. The OEM ones are crumbling after one year of hard use.

One of the sets I destroyed were PFC08s.
They didn't quite crumble but they cracked badly enough that chunks could be pulled off by hand. They also turned the calipers black in the process.

I switched to them after I crumbled a set of Endless MX72s so badly it destroyed the discs.

Switched to a Alcon BBK and still go through pads quickly.

Wowzers. That looks bad, and I never experienced it. Perhaps it’s the heat in Oz, or maybe you are the ultimate late braker.

Is your Alcon kit a street one?

I think my local track (and me) are tough on brakes.
It's an Australian compiled kit with CAR97 calipers and 378mm discs.

Seeing lot of posts about a lack of driving reviews lately, so maybe time to get this thread back to life (since it is one of very few reviews that actually drove the car).

Thanks for reminding us of this one. It includes some level of validation of a lot of points I’m trying to make here of what is still possible to achieve with M level chassis/tire tuning despite the added weight and shift in weight distribution.

It’s a preproduction car though and what I understand it was wet conditions during this event, maybe that’s why we kind of put it aside. And it’s almost half a year ago...
